Yeah, the moates adaptor. I will need tuning after the vortec swap. I thought you also needed a "Re-burnable" chip. (Such as one from hypertech.)
I also have the stuff to burn chips. If you guys need to borrow something or use something at one of our wrenching parties you are more than welcome. I have 2 blank chips for the speed density cars (256K), adapter, and the Pocket Programmer.
Got an accepted offer on the house i wanted so I should be able to host a wrenching party in about 2 months. Gotta get an electrician out to add some circuits to the garage for lights, my compressor, stereo, TV, AC, and maybe a Kegerator/fridge.
Here is what the guy said about these Heads.. Will ask about compression tonight. "Pair of Complete GM Goodwrench heads with rockers and head bolts , casting number is 14102193 , fits 305 & 350 engines, valves are 1.94" / 1.5" " Will these work for my 305? Please give advice....
Those heads will fit a 305 but... These heads have zero performance potential as they are swirl-port heads designed for a TBI application. Porting them is useless as they will never have the flow necessary for performance/high RPM driving. They are 65cc combustion chambers which means they will lower compression compared to the stock 58cc stock heads for a further performance loss. These heads are good for boat anchors as they are cast iron (52lbs each!) but not much else.
I know an electrician (Fellow thirdgen owner) who works cheap. Let me know when you need him and I will get him over for you. My cars are all MAF. Can you work with that? My combo will be: 1998 vortec 350, Scoggindickie TPI base, LT-1 injectors, etc. Just let me know what I will need to bring to make it work with my car.
91Zrocker; birdtojag can probably help you better with compatibility, but they sound like they will work...

I'll definately let you know when I need the electrician. Thanks
The MAF computers use a different (less memory) chip. The SD ECMs/chips have double the memory of the MAF setup. I don't remember the part # of the blank MAF chips. I know Moates.net sells them but you could probably pick some up in town at an electronics store.
Any suggestions? Maybe tritek electronics? I have no Idea what I would be looking for.... And, could you tune it? I really have no Idea how this stuff works. Now, LS-1 edit, on the other hand, That I can use!! LOL.

The chip is a specific one made to fit the Moates adapter. When you make your own chips you still have to run the factory PROM for the MEMCAL. The adapter plugs into your ECM and your stock PROM and the programmed chip plug into the adapter. It reads the MEMCAL off of the stock PROM but uses your new chip for the fuel/spark maps. I believe the Tunercat program allows you to tune using a graphic interface similar to LT/LS edit. Its been a while since i've done any of this as I replaced my stock ECM with a Holley Commander 950 so I can tune on-the-fly with my laptop

The $60 part from moates comes with one or two of those chips. So we wouldhave allthat we need to get started tuning. It takes a lot of time though. and a dyno would be really nice too.

The adapter from moates will work for the maf cars as well and comes with two chips that will work for your car but Idont know anything about tuning maf. i have all the stuff to do it but experience. If you want to meet up some time and start messing with it, I'm down.

I woul be down for that. The IROC is going to be the "Mild" car. Do you have a link for moates?

moates.net. Let me find my stuff and I will let you know what I have exactly. I also have a cable that plugs into the ALDL and basically acts like an on-the-fly scanner so you can see what the computer is doing while driving.

sfeeney has that too, but for some reason couldnt monitor(Or on-the-fly-scan) my IROC. If I remember right, he said he didnt have the program for 86 cars.... I dont know what all is entailed in this and was thinking about getting into it, but I got really confused reading about it. Plus, I dont think my laptop has enough memory to retain ls1edit, accel DFI and the stuff to burn these chips!! LOL, the IROC is supposed to be my un-complicated car and my wifes toy! LOL, still want to do it though....
It is looking like 2009 is going to be an "motor year" for a lot of us!! LOL, should have the motor in my T/A also in dec or so... But not the turbo's or plumbing, yet.
