New in AZ... Hello.

sort of...been here for about 3 years but finally got my 3rd gen.

What's goin on fellow Third Gen lovers!

I've actually been a member of this site for a long time... More of a reader than a poster. I'm originally from Maryland.. I had an awesome 85 Firebird back there. Moved to Arizona in 2005. Been here for awhile now.... Just finally getting another firebird/trans am. I'm getting a 91 firebird. Just have to work some things out and go pick it up.

I'll have picture sooner or later.

Any meet ups in the tempe/phx area? Back in Maryland all the muscle cars in my area would meet up at Lowe's hardware everys friday evening/nite and have a mini-car show... I miss that.

Well Just wanted to say hello to all the Arizona Third gen owners!

Or we could all just get together sometime and hang out somewhere. I could be up for that. Depends on when and where and what is going on with my business.

I'd be down for a hangout or grab some burgers at the Pavillions car show. Tell us more about this 91 you are looking at.

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

I'd be down for that too! Always enjoy car shows, hanging out.. and of course eating! haha...

It's a 91 Firebird (hardtop)... 350 Small Block, Mild Cam, New Transmission w/ shift kit, Posi-Rear End.. disk breaks all the way around... Mega Shifter, Shaker hood (I want a RAM AIR 1..eventually).. tan interior, Flowmaster exhaust.... primer'd.. etc.

The guy is really cool and definitely helping me out. Putting the AC back in because god knows I need it in AZ. Plus the girlfriend won't ride in a car with no AC lol. He said he'd paint it too for extra $$.. but I don't know what color. I want black but it gets so hot!

No I'm just worried about inspection, emissions, and insurance. Especially cuz the vin is for a v6.. but the v6 to v8 was done very well and professionally.

Pretty sure its a real shaker hood. The guy sad it's like the gta hood with a shaker but it's missing the shaker.. So basically it has a big hole in the hood. He's trying to find a shaker scoop and so am I. I'm not sure which one will fit.

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

Hmmmm.... Sounds interesting. My RS was originally a V-6 as well and while the insurance is no problem, I cant get the LS to pass the V-6 smog check. (Car must conform to the standards set forth by the original engine) The trick to this is to get collectors insurance and then you dont have to worry about passing emissions.

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

i wish I could. I'm not 25 (I'm 22)... I don't have a garage.. and I don't have a daily driver technically... I ride a bike, walk, or take public transportation every where close. this car is purely pleasure.

The lady at the MVD said that I should have it inspected.. stage I, maybe II. So it's offical that the engine upgrade is done. And that way it will show up in the records... ?? I just don't wanna screw myself.

New motor, exhaust, transmission, fresh fluids... would that pass smog?

It's not impossible for it to pass smog. There are some tricks. I wouldnt get it inspected just yet.

Why do you say that?

I just don't wanna screw myself with insurance etc.
State farm lady said they'd probably run it as a formula or something but she seemed really unsure... Other places said I would have to have the swap registered with the MVD. AH! I don't know what to do.

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

Just have them register it as a v-8. If the MVD performs an inspection it will be forever registered as a v-8 2dr coupe. It might be the right thing to do, as long as the correct emissions equipment is all there. Having it registered with the mvd as a v-8 will allow you to compete with the emissions standards for a v-8, not a v-6. In retrospect, this may be the right thing to do. I would go to the mvd and ask them.

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

Update.

Called MVD. Spoke to someone who knew their stuff. They said they don't car what motor is in it. When they look up stuff its just says 1991 Pontiac Firebird. Doesn't say v6 or v8. She said it's something that the insurance would need to know more than them. As long as it passes emissions.... that's all that matters. That made we feel a bit better...

but now... passing emissions. EEK!

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

Dang.... Yeah the agent (independent) that I'm working with said that it would be $180 a month with FULL coverage.... for agreed value of$5000. Way more than what the car is actually worth. But she said that would probably cover me if I decided to get nice paint and wheels. Not finalized yet though.

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

OUTCH!!!! I pay about 21.00 a month for the IROC (Liability only). I also have 4 cars on the policy with no drivers under 25 allowed. And, I'm 37 years old with no tickets in the last 12 years. Total, combined for me for my 01 jeep, 05 trailblazer (Both of these are full coverage) 86 IROC and 90 RS is about 160.oo monthly. Some things really DO get better with age!!

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

Yeah true. 180 with full coverage is better than 250. That's with full coverage and glass. I'd get liability only but... I'm just afraid of getting hit by someone with no insurance. Way too many have been screwed because of that...

Re: New in AZ... Hello.

Yeah, it's always a coin toss. You kinda get screwed either way. Even with full coverage you can be cheated. Just make sure you and your agent have an "Agreed value". After all, if you pay an extra $70.00 a month for 4 years and then get rear ended by someone with no ins. and your ins co only gives you $1,500 for the car, then it wasnt worth it. As far as glass coverage, I can get a new safelite windshield for $92.00. (I do have that for the trailblazer and jeep, because those are kind of expensive windshields.)

My 89 Roc is insured through Rally Insurance as a collector car- $180. per year, 3K /yr. mile limit, $17K Agreed Value. You won't have to take it through emissions on this type of policy, as long as it's not a daily driver.

It's technically not. But I don't have another car so they automatically say it's a daily driver. Mon through friday is gonna sit there pretty much. And I'm not 25 and no garage (for now, til I move)

So I'm not getting the car. The guy has taken WAY too long to do everything etc. Finally agreed to bring it down to the east valley but is having problems with the title. I told him, no title no car... So I'm suppose to get my $$ deposit $$ back... Hopefully this doesn't take a million years!

Sucks... UGH! The search for another 3rd gen continues. This time one that is closer, that I can feel and touch ...
