I did that last year at the August meeting, I think. I brought my equipment to the meeting and showed everyone what it takes and the basics of how to do it. Perhaps its time to do it again?
Now that's what I want to hear man...LONG LIVE THE GENERAL MOTORS GANG!
I just went TBI on me L6 250cid. It's a howell universal sytem. After much reading, it seems like there is much tuning to do. Especially since the six is modified some. I think my BLM's are averaging 108 near idle. As the TPS goes beyong 25 it leans out to around 121 or so. So my major problem is down low. At idle, the tps is reading 2.1, is that too high? The idle is 750rpm.
I have a PC and a cable. But I'm afraid the cable I have might not be reading the ALDL correctly. It leaves many of the BLM cells empty. I would understand for those RPM's not being used but those that are, it never "fully" populates the cells across. It also seems to stop at 70 on the map. One question, does the TPS (throttle position sensor) monitor in percentage/voltage how much the throttle is being opened? On WinALDL, there is the dash window. The tps reading never seems to get past 70-76 at WOT. And I know for a fact that my throttle system is a little ****ty. It hits the floor and stop it from going any further. Would that be the reason the data never populates beyond 70?
I don't have tunercat/burner. I just installed a 2004R that broke the bank because of some mods. But I am more than willing to write it down on a note pad and observe from the Tuning proffesor live!
You can count me in. I'm originally from East Los Angeles but migrated up the 5 a bit, near Dodger stadium. I'm willing to drive some...Later
lol, i just wanna learn some of the basic stuff i can do oil changes spark plug changes but it prity much stops there, lol and i want to be able to go from carb to TBI too that might happen if someones willin to show me the ropes and lives fairly close as complicated as Carb to TBI might be i still think its a good idea for me to do...

Becuase my carbs a B*tch to work with and i want to try sumthing new maybe not so much oem TBI but TBI sounds interesting enough for me to throw some money into...
oh and langss thanks for the link still looking around but it looks good so far
Is tuning the proms on a TBI and TPI drastically different? Or is it the same concept...upload data from ALDL, use tunercat to change values and then use the burning program...Traxion's intro the prom burning mentions TPI and I can't remember if it was for TBI too...
If all you want is a daily driver, than a carb-to-tbi swap will get you better gas mileage (maybe), an easier starting car (maybe), and make it simpler to diagnose your car. If you're looking for power, stick with carb. A better swap is to TPI or LT1. My dad and I deal with engine swaps all the time, as well as offering custom chip burning services.
Chip burning is pretty similar between the two thirdgen EFI engines, its just the TBI has less available to change, and is more finicky when it comes to making horsepower.
Programs like Diacom and Ease come with a pretty cable to hook up from the laptop to the ALDL. Snap-On does too, but doesnt use a laptop and its extremely expensive, just like everything else they sell. Theres a link floating around to a site that has programs and premade cables, or you can make your own cable. I think the intro articles on the prom board have the link.
This hometown from this site sold me one he had no use for anymore for 10 bills, shipping included. He responded to a post on tuning. It seems to work ok. It finally gave me the ESC codes I always freaked about. I would say a post is in due order and ask if anyone has a cable for sale that they have no use for anymore and I'm sure someone will respond.
