Ive heard you can bring your car down to TJ for a night, and have the thing reupholstered or even painted for helluva a lot cheaper than what it costs in the US. Anyone done this or know of anyone that has?
Seems a little risky, but to save the almight dollar, shux, I might make that drive.

Nah, there's some good shops. I know some guys who got their lowrider trucks painted in Mexico. Not bad looking either, wish I could remember where they went.
However, you DO run the risk of getting your car jacked by la policia. Mexicops stole my friends Laser. He reported it stolen in San Diego...
Yeah, you can get real good work done there for cheap. I would just take my seats out and then take them over there if you are going to leave anything over night. You dont want to leave anything over night.
My dad took his trux, a year ago. He paid 500 dollars. They did all the work from stipping it, to getting all the dents out(there was a lot of dents on the trux too) and they painted it.
Peace Out,

I wouldn't have anything done in TJ. If you want a cheap paint job, take it to Earl Shibe. If you want cheap upholstery work, shop around. There are lots of decent priced upholstery shops here. Just remember -you get what you pay for.
My sugestion is: if you know the guy that is going to do the job for you and you have seen the way he works, and you like the price, go for it, but if you have never even been in TJ, forget about it, they'll eat you alive over there.
I had my transam painted in Mexicali with a guy that I know for years, and he did the work I asked for in my car. He exeded my expectations.
I had my car painted in TJ...you just have to know where to go or go with someone that knows. The work there can be very good if you know just where and you can't beat the price. As for upholstry I plan on getting it done in Mexico as well, but I plan on buying the material here in the states. The shop I got my car painted in is a shop that does insurance claims and my dad knows the people there so I got my job done for $800 and its a pretty good job, not the best but definitely not the worst. I don't think I can suggest the place since I don't think they do jobs for the general public =/ I can ask my dad though, he actually lives in TJ. I'lll ask if he knows of any good upholstry places and paint places. He gets a lot of favors done because he is a doctor there and many of the places he's taken me to like body shops and mechanic shops are owned by his patients or a pateint of his works there, so he is always getting hooked up. The following two pictures were taken during the following week after my paintjob, it was shot with Dupont paints and its black with just a slight hint of white pearl for an extra glimmer
The next few are after I washed and Zainoed it a couple weeks ago, my paintjob is about 5 months old now
I'm in TJ as I type this...I went to get my windows tinted today for $40 =) The place also did upholstry and they mentioned that they'd do the front and rear seats for $175. The work is guaranteed for a year and if something happens you just take it back. That is for cloth only though...and they try and match your interior as best they can. For $175 I don't mind if it doesn't last years....it gives me time to save up for a good job eventually. I'd be willing to come back down with a few of you...they said it takes a day you drop it off in the morning and pick it up at night. I can make arrangments where we can drop our cars off and I can borrow my dad's car or something and we can go eat somewhere, buy some other cheap Mexican stuff they have down here and what not. Just a suggestion....there are better places down here that I can find out about, but its not gonna be $175 and its not gonna be in one day.
Yeah the offer still stands. I was planning on doing it earlier but ran into a few things that kept me from doing it. I'm gonna start this school this upcoming monday, but I can still do it on the weekend, I'm no longer held up on the weekends which is what held me from doing it earlier. Let me know what weekend would work out best and then we can work something out.
