Honda Civic Violates the Red Rocket

Oh the joys of working in the city of Commerce. Smog, 18-wheelers, potholes big enough to swallow a bus and cracks in the concrete that could fold a spun aluminum lip into a taco. As of late I had been driving my Tahoe to work for all of the above reasons, but I was starting to miss the more primitive feel of the RR. So I decided to drive it to work yesterday. I left a little early to take advantage of lighter traffic and to enjoy a more “playful” commute. Well this brings us to the accident. If any of you are familiar with the intersection of Telegraph and Slauson, you know its just plain funny. In order to turn right onto Slauson, you have to yield and watch out for the cars hauling *** to get onto the 5 freeway. So here I am yielding, when I get drilled by a white Honda Civic. Upon impact I quickly noticed the 60+ thousand-dollar, paper plate wearing E500 inches from my front bumper. Brakes and e-brake were quickly applied. We pulled in to a Burger King parking lot where I was able to get the full scope of the damage. The quarter panel has a basketball size dent in it and the bumper cover has a couple of scratches in it. She has Progressive insurance, and from my dealings with them before, I can expect a fight to get my vehicle repaired in a timely manner. Oh well I guess I’ll just pull out the good old duct tape…

Mike,
Who is your insurance? You may be able to get your car fixed ASAP by your insurance and then they'll duke it out with Progressive if need beto get reimbursed.

That's how it works with AAA.

That's how it worked with Allstate as well, before the bastards jacked my insurance up to $1,500 for no good reason other than the fact "that they don't write policies like mine anymore..." Now, I have 100/300 coverage on BOTH Camaros, with $0 collision deductible through Wawanesa and pay about $900/yr

Sorry to hear about the mishap, Mike.

Why do you think they say for safe drivers? You had an accident, now you're not a safe driver anymore.

Hope things get better Mikey, I know that hurts right now.

I have never been involved in an accident where I was at fault!

I will, however, say that a "safe" driver doesn't necessarily mean a "good" driver...

I know ha… it’s been at the body shop since Tuesday and has a completion date of the 9th. Boy did I get into it with the progressive agent. As most of you know I recently had “TDS”(plug) install a long overdue set of greaseable door hinges on the driver side. My door had never open and closed so smooth as it did after the installation. So after this dink drills me, the door starts sticking. So the adjuster and I get into this heated discussion over whether or not the damage was preexisting or not. I tried to make her understand that the wear on the rocker panel was preexisting however the problem had since been corrected. I physically showed her the new hinges and indicated that the door was no longer sticking on the rocker panel but in the area of the striker bolt. Due to the fact that the quarter panel had been pushed forward altering the doors dynamic. Then she proceeds to tell me that she was doing me a favor by not totaling the car. Doing everything I possibly could to contain myself she then dripping with sarcasm she says that she isn’t sure that they can color match the red tape on the front of the car. Yup I launched and proceeded to dissect her personally and then professionally. End result, my door and rear hatch will be repaired at no additional expense. It’s extremely disheartening to be told that you favorite toy is worth nothing and should be discarded. I didn’t ask to be hit and had never been hit up to that point. Nothing like a harsh dose of reality to ruin your day.

Sorry to hear of the accident. You could have had the adjuster call me to confirm the repairs to the door. You also had my repair receipt to show her.

Ahhhhh.... the joys of insurance repairs.

I had a slightly similar experience with my car when I got tagged last year. Though I barely got hit the body shop somehow came up with a repair estimate of $2500 stating there was quite a bit of damage behind the tail lights. The shop rep. then tells me that he was relieved that he wouldn't have to declare the car totaled. From a low speed impact? Huh?

Anyway, glad to hear you got it sorted out Mike. Now comes the fun part of having to ride the body shop's butt and see to it the car is fixed to your satifaction AND that they don't tweak anything else while it's at the shop.

The shop that worked on my car tweaked my exhaust then acted like they had nothing to do with it. To top it off, they then called my insurance to get them to pay for fixing it. Fortunately my insurance adjuster was very cool and he took care of it. So I ended up getting somewhat re-imbursed for my Hooker cat-back and even got paid to install it myself.

I’ve got a book of receipts two inches thick. When I opened it and showed her my receipt for the door repair her flunky/trainee says “wow it takes all of that to keep one of these ‘things’ on the road”. Amazing!

I’ve been going over there everyday on my lunch to keep abreast of the situation. So far so good, the actual bodywork is completed and it should be squirted by the time I get over there today.
