There was an article about that in the Register a few days ago. Something about movie memorabilia.
I was suprised it went for so much, especially since they used more than one for filming.
As a sub contractor I was working up at Universal Studios in the mid 1980's. I saw 3 Trans Ams parked there that were used in the Knight Rider series. So there were at least 3 of them. I saw one that had some dents in the body. So I think they rotated them when the others were in for repair. Allen
I refuse to watch that show...
Those were the days before special effects... Sometimes they cut the scene badly and you can see the stunt car fall apart as it's landing.
Same cheezy cuts now-a-days as well. Aside from the bad acting and horrible cars, in 'The Fast and The Furious' when the charger completes it's loop-dee-loop you can see the driver in a full fire suit, a roll car, and my favorite part his yellow helmet! I mean I know that for imports the golden rule is: yellow equals fast , but I would have thought they could have got the guy a black helmet or better yet just have tinted plexiglass so we don't see anything :lala:

Typically they use multiple cars. There is usually the "hero" car which has all the details and looks good for the up close "money" shots.
Then they have various cars for action shots and stunts. These often have sparse interiors with the suspension beefed up, maybe a roll cage ...and so on.
No to spoil it for anyone who wants to see the DVDs, but in one behind-the-scenes part they talk with the stunt coordinator... Besides the looks, he mentions cars with different mods for certain effects.
I'm disillusioned now.
