Dealer says that the stock PF-25 oil filter has now been discontinued by GM. The new "replacement" filter is smaller in size. That don't sound good to me. Less area means less filtration. Correct?
Went to another Delco parts place and they say the same thing. PF-25 is discontinued. WTF?

Yep, gone! That new PF454 filter is a joke. Get the PF1218 filter. It is bigger then the PF25 though, more like the now disc PF35.

The PF35 is discontinued too? I've never used the PF25 since the 35 is larger. Lately I've been using the PF1218 because that is all thats in stock. Now I know why.
Dang! How can they get away with that? If the original specs call for the larger PF-25 filter and then they replace it with a much smaller filter, then something is seriously wrong with GM.
I sure hope they don't discontinue the PF-1218 anytime soon. Keep your GM car ALL GM. Yeah right! How can you when they're discontinuing everything including the oil-filters.
They told me at autozone and kragen that they were discontinued a long time ago - autozone lists that little tiny one in their computers but not 1218. For that reason you can just about always find the 1218s at autozone. Might want to stock up, though
Get your local, non chain, parts store to order you a WIX filter, I am pretty sure they still make the original sizes and they have much more filter material on the inside.
Just wondering what makes gm better than a fram or any other aftermarket filter? Someone said wix has more material inside. that brings up interesting subject. And when i get bored and destructive at work i may have to find out if stock acdelco or cheap Mighty filter or different inside. And if i buy mine own wix filter and try it i could compare. But are wix more expensive than fram or delco filters?

Hmm... I guess it's been more than a few months since I bought one. Good thing I stocked up last time I was at the store!
Wix filters are very good quality, as are Baldwin filters (if you can find them). I believe Napa filters are manufactured by Wix. Wix and Delco are about comparable in cost.
Mighty filters?? I wouldn't put those on a Yugo...

If you want to use a 2-qt filter try the a/c delco PF-935 which is a replacement for the older numbers. It is the longer one and I have no problems with clearance. Its nice to have a six quart capacity.
the K&N filters are nothign but a rebadged Fram filter that has a sheetmetal nut spotwelded on.
i just put a PF454 on my camaro.. i was thinking to myself, damn... it has been awhile since ive worked on SBCs.. this filter seems small, and i though the number was two digits..... lol
Originally posted by rezinn How could you even put that thing on there without noticing how small it is? It probably hardly holds half a quart of oil :P
because i usually run the "truck" one... i think its 35 or somthing like that.
this time i had to get the "car" one since the oil cooler adapter would make the other one lower then the oilpan and Kmember.
i didnt remember it being that small either... lol.
i'll jsut get a bigger wix one next time. i change the oil every 2 weeks anyway...
