I think that link shows that the maximum hp numbers on that combination that is still smog legal would be the Super Ram. The three that scored better peak numbers were the Holley single plane, Stealth Ram, and Mini Ram- none of which is smog legal. Of course, they couldn't test Jerry's modified runners.
well i have un modified LT1 intake sitting in my garage for about 6months now. i got to talking to a few people on here that have the conversion and looked at some pictures. the obvious thing in the way is the distributer. BUT.. there is room enough to make an adapter out of 2 modified block off plates, and 2 tubes to carry exhaust.
since im not a welder, nor do i have one at my disposal, i only have basic drawings and measurements. so far it seems to be able to fit with minor thing hindering. what i want do, is send my intake to John Milican and have him modify the intake for me, that way i can see and possibly have some one with a welder make a prototype adapter. the issue i have not yet had to deal with is the fuel lines that run into the fuel rails. this is why i need the inverted intake, distributer in, mock up fuel lines attached to be accurate. it can be done, just need to perfect a few things. i also need an LT1 EGR, i think ours might be smaller, is so its not by much but i need to measure the head part diameter for clearance purposes.
the EXHAUST TUBE ISSUE
the tube that runs from the header over the head, and into the manifold is a little trickier. since the manifilold now has a hold down bolt for the distributer about 1/2 of an inch in front of it, creates a small problem with using an unmodified one. to make it work would require cutting of the original tube to a curved 90* angle up, then over the head.
i also dont have this tube to experiment with, just measurements.
im going to send my intake away to john at the end of the month, then once it comes back, i'll have one of you guys help me out.
some people suggested hacking back the thick EGR bosses to make room, cant be done because its actually hollow, and the metal bosses are only about 1/4 thick, thats why adapters are the only way.
its taken me a while to work on things since my wife has been ill beating that damn caner back to remission. now that she is all done i should have a bit more time..
Don says Jerry has converted an LT1 intake with functional egr AND fabbed a place for the thermostat!!!!! i sent him a PM a week ago but i havent heard from him. he must be really busy with work.
im not sure if this will pass a visual inspection for smog, but at least everything should function.
I'll sell you mine for $500...includes modified LT1 intake by John Millican, fuel rails, fuel lines, Map sensor, throttle bracket, thermostat housing and soething else I forgot.
Thanks for taking the lead on this project. I bet that many folks on here would jump at the chance to get an LT1 intake to pass. Visual is the key, and I can understand why some shops are scared poopless of passing something that appears different.
I bet John's busy. If California's legislative braintrust had a modicum of sense and let us make clean modded cars, John would have to work ten more hours per week. heh
I didn't know about Mrs. Killjoy. Very good to hear that she is in remission.
K <-saying a few words to The Big Man for you and yours tonight.
