Should I buy GTO??

Last night I went to the Pontiac dealer to look at the GTO. I saw 04 red 6 speed, leather seat, very beautiful car and I got him down to $23.750. What do you guys think?? Should I go for it since I got no time to work on projects, plus I got sick of working on cars. I got so many project and I can't keep up with them.
What do you think??

That's a damn good price for a new GTO, and I know how you feel. I'm recently married, looking for a house, and the cars are acting up. Thoughts creep in, like "Just got a raise" and "health bennies are cheaper", and before I know it, I'm cruising for something else to simply buy and drive.

Then I look at insurance costs and the monthly payment. This time around I'm looking at the Formula, which needs paint, brakes, a wing, a hood, a top end and trans, and a lot of small detail work, and I'm thinking "Well, if I skip a month of fixing it I don't lose anything but time: If I had a car payment and missed it, I'd be screwed." Maybe narrowing down the number of projects will work for you.

Food for thought, however healthful.

Maybe I should explain a little bit more.
1-No time to work on projects: I currently working 14 houres a day 6 days a week. I only get weekends off and I do not feel like working on the weekend.
2-No place to work on: I used to have a garage in the back yard. i had a lift, tools. But since my dad got the county approval to split the property so he knocked my garage down to build a new house. Since then dirt in my mouth and mud in my shoes.
3-So many projects: I do not even know where to start with. Here is what I got:

A- 97 Silverado: I just finished painting my truck after two years on the primer. that thing needs a lot of work. Wet sandind and buff it, put the grill back on it, transfer case replacment, Torque converter control valve replacment, wheels and tires, repace idler arm, aligment, clean up the interior, door handle replacemnt, door adjustment, lift kit, and there is some more.

B- 90 RS conver: That thing needs so much work. It needs engine, tranny, new top, paint, and more

C-85 IROC: needs to finsh up the engine, breake in the engine, tranny, tires, polish wheels, door replacment, paint job.

D- 84 Z28: Don't even think about it. it needs work that will keep me busy for the next 10 years.

E-2000 Sunfire: Needs new tires, spare tire(yes I drive on sh^tty tires with no spare) struts, valve cover replacment, alignment, and some more

That definitely is a great price for a goat! I would go ahead and get one, with all your hard work I think it's good to reward ourselves with a present every now and then, of course my 'presents' always seem to be more for a vehicle than for myself It also sounds like you would feel better getting a few of those projects off of your plate

The 2004’s have 350HP where the 2005’s have 400HP. I’d nut up and get into a 2005. Just imagine yourself sitting at a stoplight in your new paper plate 04 when a 05 pulls up and embarrasses you. I don’t know about you, but I think the extra 50HP is well worth the additional 45-50 bucks a month.

Don’t let a weak *** salesman suck you into yesterdays hype with a “good” deal.

Nah,
I wouldnt pay that for 50hp...you could easily get that extra 50hp with a mod or two with a one time cost. To each his own though.

The same people that realized that a Z28 wasn’t enough and stepped into an SS. C’mon bro lets get serious an LS1 to a LS2? Do your homework and shop around I guarantee you can get into a 05 for a couple of bucks more that and 04.

If it were me, I'd probably go fo trh GTO and sell the projects. That should cover the payments for a little while.

I'll also back Mike up and suggest you explore an '05. Like anything, you should always try to get the best model you can. The LS1 is headed the way of the L98.

In the long run, it's cheaper to go for the best option right from the get-go. It doesn't make sense to me to buy something based on price and then keep upgrading every so often. You spend more money that way.

I agree. Don't waste your money on the '04 when the much better '05 is coming out.

Get the 2005! This way you don't have to find time and money to make the 2004 as fast as the 2005. You can spend the same money on the upgrades for the 2005 and have 450hp.

the LS1 that is in the 04 GTO is an LS6 block.. AND the intake manifold is already the LS6.. the only difference is the Heads/cam (springs are the same after 02)

if you were to buy the LS6 heads for $1,999(this is new price, you could others cheaper) and a used LS6 cam from the corvette forum for 200$.. get some PCM tuning... bam... you have a 405hp ZO6.

need more HP, get a full exhaust and the small bolt ons..

oh on the LS1tech.com... there have been guys already changing LS2 intakes from their LS6... no power gains so far.. the LS1 intake manifold was last used on the 00 camaro/trans ams. so 01 and newer all use LS6.

not worth the extra 10 grand...

by the way... the 05's have to pay the "gas guzzler tax" now. (i think this only applies to auto's though)

If you can't get an 05 for a lot less than sticker, than 04 with AFR heads & cam.

And headers.

And exhaust.

And a new clutch.

And .......

…and completely void a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty? Wow I guess it’s just me, but then again I’m the guy that throws down a couple of grand extra for the extended warranty. Some call it foolish but how can you argue with three transmissions for free?

Now this ten grand thing…every time I put someone into a vehicle at full pop retail its because the person didn’t attempt to negotiate the price. Once in a while I’ll get a customer that has done his homework and attempt to put the stones to me. Now these are the guys that get the killer deals because you want then out of your dealership before other customers can hear them. These cars are an impulse buy and the dealer knows it so govern yourself accordingly.

Latest update

I went to two diffrent dealers last night and I drove the 05 and I do really like it. Now for the price I got it down to MSRP price which is 33G since there is a mark up on the car for $3000 they call it Market value. Also there is $1300 tax for gas guzzler. The 05 just arrived to the dealers last week and there is no rebate on them yet and the dealers thinking those cars gonna fly off the lot
I better wait for a 5-6 months when GM finds out that they can't sell GTOs and SSRs then they start give you all kind of cool discounts and rebates(just like 04 GTO and SSR).

Nothing foolish about it. I've pruchased all my cars off the used car lot from local dealerships and usually by the extended warranty. I've also had to take advantage of the warranty every time.

So Mike, are you just selling RV's? I'm shopping for a good used Chevy or Dodge Extra Cab, Short Bed, 4x4. Preferably a 2000 or newer, already lifted with bigger wheels/tires.

I do somewhat agree with Mike. When I bought my pickup, I made sure that it had everything that I wanted, with regard to performance and options.

The only thing it didn't have was a limited-slip rear, but a trac-loc unit for it was only $150 (much much less than what the dealer was going to charge). I, too, bought the extended warranty and it has already saved me over $500 to date, but by the time it's up, it will have saved me well more than the added cost...

Bret, I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 5.9 Sport Club Cab, Short Bed with a 3" lift and 33" tires and I love it. Solid truck, plenty of power, and pulls trailers like nothing. With all of the new potholes that have sprung up around Long Beach in the past couple of weeks, I like it even more...

Yeah, driving the canyons to work the past two weeks has been an adventure. Not exactly F-body road conditions.

Glad to hear everyone is pleased with their Dodge trucks. There are definitely some better deals to be had on a Dodge.

Don't waste your money. I look at cars like that as hasbeens in no less than 3 years while you are still paying for it. They are nothing special over the guy that pulls up next to you in the same stamped out car.

On the other hand, 5 years from now that 85 IROC is a ture classic being 25 years old. Just how many are out there for the most part in very good shape. Sell the other two Camaros and focus on the 85 IROC cherrying it out. They becoming more rare and desireable ever year that passes and are coming up in worth. I new car is simply a money pit that is the worst investment you can make. For the same or less you will have a car personalized and in 5 more years have something worth twice what that GTO will be worth in 5 years.

The Camaro will only go up in value, The GTO will only go down
