Is my posi worn?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share knowledge on this subject...

My 88 IROC has the G80, GM3, G92 rpo codes (3.45 positraction rear end). My question is about the performance of the limited-slip:

Burnouts in a straight line leave equal-length black marks every time, and launching in a straight line is fine. The axle does not make noise. The problem is that getting on the throttle during a right-hand turn causes the passenger's-side rear wheel to spin (instead of putting the power down, or making the rear-end step out).

Does this mean the posi is worn, or maybe needs limited slip additive? What type of limited-slip is my axle--cone, clutch, etc? Even if performing perfectly, do posi units behave differently than say, the Torsen in the the 4th gen I used to own?

Thanks.

If it is a 9-bolt rear, then it has the cone style limited-slip.

As far as the turning issue, limited-slip means just that — limited-slip. When turning the axle unlocks so that the rear wheels can roll at different speeds.

pull the cover off to see if the posi is even there. I went through this before and mine was removed for an open rear.

Thanks for the replies.

When brand-new, how do these cone-style posi units behave while turning? Are they inherently, by design, less effective than a Torsen?

Or is the wheelspin while turning right just a symptom that the posi is worn?
