The 4th gen guys are putting together an f-body invasion for Los Angeles during Memorial Day weekend. They're planning on renting out CA Dragway on Monday and having a cruise/picnic/car show on Sunday.
Thats how long its gonna take to plan all this stuff out. Its a whole weekend full of stuff. Ever hear of the Vegas Invasion? Its like that, only California style.
http://losangelesinvasion.com/ here is the offical website for los angeles invasion... you can pre pay for your spots (ie. racing, dyno, bbq, car show)
ill be there
Post up here to let me know which events you want to participate in and I will add you to the list. The event is prepaid so have you money in by the end of March as when the word gets out (other than the forums) at events like super chevy, the slots will fill up fast and if your not paid up you risk getting bumped off the list.
You don't have to sign up for the beach day. It will be kinda an open cruise/hangout. Since we have a lot of out a towners that will be cool for them and us. Santa Monica provides more parking/Entertainment (i.e. Venice)
Website updated.
Anyone else? Events? Super Chevy coming will fill up so get paid and lock in.
hey good news guys, my PNW car club (www.cascadecrew.org)'s "party with the cows 2008" is the following weekend, so i can make this event down here as i will still be in the area.
The racing is prepay if you are participating. Some of the other events are prepay. Not sure about the cruise. You should look it up on the web site for more information.
Thats cool, the meet-and-greets and cruise are all i'm interested in. i will/may have some family visiting that weekend. (my sis want's to go on the cruise!)
Is it too late to sign up for the dyno run? I've never had my car dynoed and I would sign up for this if $50 is a good deal. Is the $50 for just 1 run or what?
To liven up the dyno day, everyone who hasnt dynoed before can throw 5 dollars into a hat, and makes a guess as to their car's HP and TQ output. Closest guess wins the money. Otherwise there isnt much point to dynoing your car if you're not making changes in between runs, in my opinion. Its a bragging competition.
I’m planning on doing the ROTW cruise and thinking about the racing. I don’t have a helmet for the racing though, if I could borrow one I’d appreciate it or should I buy one? Last I looked at a motorcycle shop I couldn’t find one with a certification tag and the goof working there didn’t know anything.

Also, I was at Walmart the other day (in the Buena Park mall) and they had some Bell helmets (brain buckets, open face, and full face) all around $50-$90 I think. (not sure of exact price, but I do remember that they were cheap)
The helmets have to have a Snell rating, it is located inside the helmet under the foam on mine.
M2000, it might have gone up since then... (M for motorcycle helmets, SA for autos)
When I went looking, it was hard to find a rated helmet for less than $125, and the ones at Walmart and Pep Boys weren't rated, but that was 3 years ago. I got mine at a cycle shop.
I don't even know if they will check the rating at the track this time, but better to be safe and get the rated helmet.
Ah, nm the Walmart Bell helmets. They weren't SNELL, just DOT. I didn't know they had to be SNELL. Almost any motorcycle shop or dealership should sell SNELL helmets, so that would be a good place to look.
I bought mine in a motorcycle shop. They must have had a hundred of them on the wall and some with a very decent price and with the Snell rating. Trying to remember the name. It was on Ball, East of the 5 freeway a few blocks on the North East corner. Maybe Hahn Motosports or something like that.

Hahm Motorsports at 125 e ball rd in Anaheim. They have a big selection of junks. So does Berts Mega Mall at 11511 n azusa ave in Covina, or Chaparral Motorsports at 555 south h st in San Bernardino...
Or like Don said, and buy it online

Reason: typo
I left a msg with them yesterday, I'll them try again today. Doing some research, DOT is not good enough, got to have Snell, M, or SA type rating as mentioned above.
There's CyclePartsWest close by and a couple other leads to check out, I'm sure I'll have one in time.
It looked like the sign up roster was getting full so I signed up last night for the cruise and racing. Hopefully no last minute disasters will keep me from going.
I wouldn't buy at any of those dealers specially Berts. They are way overpriced. What i have done when buying a motorcycle helmet is try it on at the dealer and just buy online. Try this place i bought my kbc helmet for 200 shipped and its worth around 300 at the dealers. www.compacc.com

not sure if its different for car helmets but all of my motorcycle helmets have both dot/snell ratings on the back of the helmet on the outside.

Thanks for the link Don, great prices. I went with a full face, for a few $ more it has a little more protection and the M2005 rating, the open face was M2000. For $75 out the door, and on my way home from work, I couldn't pass it up!
Not being used to a helmet I immediately feel claustrophobic with the shield down, but open I'm ok.
One piece of advice, if you get an M-rated helmet, its good for 10 years at the racetrack. If you get an SA-rated helmet, its good for 15 years. I'm still using my SA95 helmet I got in 1999, and its good for another year. The SA's are a little more expensive, but they are usable for an additional five years.
Good to know, my M2000 should last another year or too.
I didn't like the idea of the helmet either, but once I went down the track, it was OK. With all the adrenaline, you'll forget anythings on your head! (secret: it makes your car faster!)
Good buy! Thats what I should have done too, try it in the store and buy online!
Does anyone know if the friday Meet & Greet is confirmed? It's on the main thread over there but not on their LA Invasion website. And what exactly is "Beach Day"?
The Web site is pretty vague about it. No real details. Trying to cruise Venice Beach, on a Saturday, during Memorial Day weekend — good luck. Parking will be fun for everyone, too.

cruising through a metropolitan area on a holiday, also known as illegal parking.
