will my rims have room for a 9 bolt

will my n-24 15 inch wheels clear the rotors and calipers on a 9 bolt rear end?

Which calipers?
Should be no issue with the early style, same style caliper and same rotor size as the front.

They will clear both types of brakes.

Re: will my rims have room for a 9 bolt

Ok next weekend I am going to look for a 9 bolt or 10 bolt disc rear for my car. But here is a big question to adapt a 9 bolt to my car with rear disc brakes what will be different then what my current 10 bolt disc rearend has so I get everything I need ....... I assume all 9 bolts were posi's correct .... Also would it be more cost effective just putting new gears in my current rearend verses buying another one ...... I currently have 3.73's what numerically lower number could I drop to so I could re-use my carrier, I think I have a auburn carrier right now, I know it's probably not a stock 84 trans am carrier this one has springs and plates in the carrier and I dont ever remember the stock carrier being like this.I kind of think 3.08/3.23 would be nice with my 5 speed for economy however I do think 2.73's would be just a bit to much. I currently run about 2100rpm at 65mph and would like to get it down to 1700rpm at 65mph would 3.08/3.23's get me this?

3.23's is the lowest numerically you could put on a 3-series carrier. However, finding the speedo gears to work with it are tough. 3.42's would work but again the speedo gears are tough to find.

Well the reason I'm asking is because I have a rearend out of an 85 with 3.23's a posi and disk brakes that I'd be willing to trade. I really want 3.42's gears, but 3.73's would be my second choice.

Re: will my rims have room for a 9 bolt

is your car driveable with the rearend in it? cause that is the only way I would ever consider trading this rearend is for something that is equally as good ... it has about 45,000 miles on a fresh overhaul. It got a new carrier and new gears and bearings. And the rearend has never been abused. So whats the story with this 3.23 disc ... and where are you located.
----------
I have the original speedo gears from when my car was a automatic with 3.23's .... will they fit in my T-5 is another question and will the driven gear fit my VSS yet another good question ... I personally dont even want to think how hard they are to change on a T-5 so that will wait till I do my clutch in a few months.

Oh and you positive they are 3.23's thought 3.23's died when the crossfire engines were dropped. I didn't think 3.23's made it to 85

Re: will my rims have room for a 9 bolt

To be honest unless I can drive the car with the rear in it I am really not interested ..... With mine you can drive it and see it works perfectly, I put about 1,100 into this rear when it was done so I can't justify swapping it only to find out what I traded it for needs a rebuild too ..... Think I will just have a quik gear swap done on it ..... Thanks for your offer anyways.

No, T5 speedo gears and automatic speedo gears are completely different and not compatible with each other. The driven gear is easy and is connected to the VSS. The drive gear on a T5 is mounted on the tailshaft the same as the automatic, and requires removing the T5 tailshaft and removing the gear. However the T5 must be out of the car to do this.

GM used 3.23 gears on all types of thirdgens from 82 to 92. They were the most common as the optional gear set on V8 automatics.

No, our 10-bolts are the 7.5" (7 1/2") or 7.625" (7 5/8") ring gears, not the 8.5". 7.5" and 7.625" are interchangeable on the same carrier, but I dont think you could use a 7.5" pinion on a 7.625" ring gear or vice versa. 3.08 and numerically lower are 2-series, and 3.23 and numerically higher are 3-series.
