Re: Anyone smog an F-body this month? EVAP test?

Sounds like all you hate this test. Id be pretty frikin pissed if I had to waste my time and money going to diffrent smog places in the 1st place! I be pissed that they dont even have the correct equipment to fit all these diffrent cars. Then I be pissed for them using any tool on my car to perform a test when they are not to as they make us go to a test only for the reason for us not able to do any work on the vehicle there to get it passed. Checking the timing that is not a tool that is a timing Light and it does not cause damage to the vehicle. Same with the gas cap test, it will not harm the cap.

There probably have to be a lot of complaints in order for them to stop this test. I doubt they will though. They just want to screw with us and piss us off and knowing there just creating more smog for each vehicle to go to diffrent smog shops. Just to have us smog these rare cars no days that it's just creating more smog then not smogging the car. Makes no sense.

I had mine done late December. I failed due to high Nox. No other issues. Still working on the Nox problem. No fitment issues with the other tests.

Re: Anyone smog an F-body this month? EVAP test?

Oh rest assured, its here to stay. They bought some time with the EPA doing this. I cant say its a bad idea, after all the whole reason for the closed system and evap can is to minimize pollution while the car is just sitting there. But they need to do the test the correct way (rather than smashing a rubber hose into a flat piece of junk with 12" pliers), and comply with the law they wrote. If they cant properly test it, its THEIR problem not ours. If it was my problem then I'd inspect it myself and call it fine and tell them to go away.

Re: Anyone smog an F-body this month? EVAP test?

The car failed again!!!!! This time the ref had about 9 caps so the EVAP test was no problem. The problem was the HC's at 15mph & 25mph. It got a 114 out of 108 allowable & 92 out of 83 allowable respectfuly. My brother did mention that the coolant temp was around 160*. Any ideas on what may cause high HC's?

Low coolant temp.

This is why smog testing is so fun. If they want to be picky about HC, they should be forced to test at operating temp.

Honestly, the goal is looking to get all cars off the road that are past a certain age.

The EPA and the State operate under the premise that cars are the single source of smog AND old cars cause the most smog. Get the old cars off the road and make people buy new, more advanced, cars.

The tests keep getting stricter, the numbers get lowered ...and so on. It's already getting close that are our cars are being forced to meet standards they were never designed to meet.

It's just like computers. You want to run the latest software? Gotta buy a new OS, need a faster processor ...etc. It's just easier for most people to toss out the old computer and buy the latest model – which will be obsolete in 6 months to a year.

You guys are making too much of this stuff about making it hard to pass.
All the cars that we smog all blow #'s way below the average, not near the max #'s.
Even big cam cars, it's all about doing it with the right stuff.

Don is right, smog is not all that bad. We can run clean. But this new test needs sorted out.

Its one thing to make a new engine pass, but its something different to make a stock 100,000-200,000 mile engine pass with questionable stock parts still on it. Things fail and you dont realize it until you go to the smog test. That's why they make us do these tests, so we replace the parts that fail and make the engine run dirty.
