Since the majority are on board with the idea of a car cruise and dinner at Barona Casino in the Lakeside/East San Diego area, I've decided to make it official.
We'll be meeting at Don's shop at 1030 W. Hoover Ave in Orange around 12:30 pm, and leave no later than 1:00 pm. I plan to arrive at Barona no later than 4pm and have dinner around 4:30pm. That will avoid most of the dinner rush and allow most people enough time to make the drive back home before 8pm.
There are three different routes I suggest we take.
The fastest route according to Yahoo Maps is to take the 5 south to the 805 south to the 52 east. That's about 108 miles and two hours of driving, almost all freeway with no cruising.
The next route would be taking the 5 south to the 78 east and coming in from the north on San Pasqual Valley Road. That is about 110 miles and a little more than two hours of driving, with only the last part being a scenic cruise.
My preferred route would be to take the 76 east out towards Julian and come back on the 78 west and then south to Barona. That would be 155 miles and take 3 hours, but would include a lot of canyon and scenic driving.
Please post if you plan to attend, and vote for the route you want to take.
If we take the longest route and one of us breaks down or there's some other mishap we'll be rushed to get there at the stated time. This is expected to be a large group. If we take option 2 we'll have some padding to make some stops or handle any problems that may come up.
Funny thing though, if we take option 3 (the longest route) via the 15 South (from the 91E) instead of the 5, the ETA is 2.5 hours and 132 miles. This is a good compromise, I think.
your right and in that case count me in, ill bring the wifey too. i was actually up there friday at don's shop finally got to meet him, real nice guy. and i met another guy, vincent if i recall was his name. cool people so cant wait to meet the rest of the crew.
just wish she was all done i'd go up there just to cruise down with yall, with gas prices the way they are i wouldnt have minded. but next time she will be all ready!
I'm not sure if I'll make it or not. My wife is scheduled to work that day, but if the census at the hospital continues to be as low as it is now, she may get cancelled. I may end up in the Saturn wagon. My T/A needs new "tennis shoes". I'm waiting for a check from my last job for the trucking company in Corona. If the check comes in before the 13th, I'll have new tires and be good to go. They pay on time in 30 days from when I complete a job and send the bill, but the 13th is close to the 30 days, so the check could come in just before or just after! If my wife is working and I don't have the new tires, I'll be in the Dakota. With all of the weight in the Dakota, there is no way I can keep up in the twistys!
Sorry guys, my 16 year old niece is getting her black belt in Tae Quon Do, and I'm responsible to a great degree, so my presence is required. If she doesn't pass the test, I'll kick her bu#.
I'll be there. My baby got new shoes yesterday. My wife is scheduled to work on the 13th, so she will only be with us if the hospital census is down enough for her to get called off.
I would prefer either of the first 2 routes. If you get into the Santa Ana canyon after 8:00 am getting through is kind of a "crap shoot." If there is an accident in the canyon, there just isn't a way to detour around it.
The weather reports are varying quite abit. Already rained here this morning and we were not supposed to get any rain until possibly tomorrow night. I suspect we will be OK for tomorrow.
We didn't make it to Barona. We got as far as the Santa Ysabel Casino and saw a sign for their prime rib special, so we stopped there instead. Otherwise we had a nice trip with no problems as far as I know.
Russ is right, the rain was fairly mild, just some drizzle and sprinkles but no big rain. It was very cold though.
We had 9 people and 6 cars.
We stopped at Santa Ysabel Casino because last time we came thru there, we missed the prime rib special by a week. And it was another 30 minutes to Barona.
Russ says we'll stop at Santa Ysabel again when we do the Anza Borrego cruise in January. If we keep this up we might be regulars!
I didnt get any pictures because I was driving. Did anyone else?
