Frisco's Diner near Lon in front of the Home Depot on Gale has a banquet room that we could probably get and plenty of parking. Lon, would you be able to swing by and check for us?
I just read in the latest issue of Camaro Performers that the old "Johnny's Broiler" that used to be a car & cruise hangout in the 1950's & 1960's and was destroyed clandestinely by the previous owner in spite of court orders to preserve it as a historic landmark, is being rebuilt and reopened as a Bob's Big Boy. It is on Firestone Blvd. near the 710 freeway in Downey. I don't know if it is opened, yet.

Thats around the corner from my place and it has been torn down and abandoned for years. I don't think its finished though. I will double check on my way home from work today
Nothing on the Web about R&R closing. But then, they haven't updated their site since it went up in 2004.
Google comes up empty as far as any official announcement, but there are some other car clubs in the same boat we are. Anyone know anything about the West Coast F-Body club?
They come up as another club that was using R&R as a regular meeting place.

There is also a Frisco's in Downey that is over near the 605, if I remember correctly. They have cruise nights in the middle of the week, I don't know if they would have a banquet room available for us on a Saturday night or not.
Bob's Big Boy in Torrance. (Hawthorne and PCH) pretty much down the street from Ricky and Ronnies. they have car shows and cruise nights there and a big enough lot.

Is that the place that looks like a 50's diner you can see from the freeway? That sounds good to me.
Or Manny's suggestion of Bob's Big Boy in Torrance would work, too.
If the L.A. guys showed up more, they might have more of a vote.
Speedzone. It has always made sense. It is right in the middle of LA, OC, and Sanbernadino. It has food, it has banquet rooms, it has entertainment, it has gokarts, it has parking.
People want to drive a long distance only to have fun. Otherwise, there is always low attendance. Heck I do not even have a 3rd gen anymore (but alweays love themand have lots of knowledge on them) yet I would attend meetings here regularly.
Dean.
You guys want to arrange a car club meeting up at Irwindale this year? You should get on the ball and reserve a spot early. I will also be able to supply occationally free tickets during the year since my team I crewcheif on is now the factory sponsored truck by Supertrucks Inc of Toyota Speedway. Its fun to have clubs out there I know on race days. (our 2009 schedule is not out yet, but soon- gonna be a big feild this year with some big names coming back into it)
How about 2009 be the year of variety? Let’s say we try some different locations and see which we would like to settle on, or which would be willing to accept us at our scheduled meeting times.

Speedzone charges for their meeting rooms, and the only food is a snack bar. Plus, they are really busy on Saturday nights, especially during the Summer, so it wouldnt work out for us.
I'd love to do Texas Loosey's again. I havent been there since George took us to the one by his old place.
Fudd's in Lakewood might work too, but is that a decent area?
Fudd's in Lakewood is on the East side of the Lakewood Mall. The area isn't bad, the only problem is that it tends to be noisy. I'm not sure if they have a private dining room. I'll check it out today and let you know what the situation is.
I checked with Fudds Lakewood. They have a room we could use. It probably seats 50-75, but they can rope off however much of the space that we would need. He was familiar with Ricky & Ronnies closing. They had a car show scheduled that ended up being moved to Fudds at the last minute due to R & Rs closing.
I always liked the pontiac club meetings at the Fuddruckers in Lake forest/El Toro!
The food was good, it was a large restaurant, and as long as we don't bring 500 other people, the service should be faster.
I don't think they have a wide selection of food, but most of us seem to be burger people.
On the other hand, what about show n' tell?
Right now I bet any restaurant would be happy to take on 10 or 15 new regular customers.
I've never been to the Fudd's in Lake Forest, but the Lakewood Fudd's does not have table service. You stand in line to order, and receive one of those "led buzzer thingies" that they turn on when your food is ready to pick up. It means that there isn't any table service, but it also means you won't get bad service either!
Russ, the El Toro Fudd's is the exact same thing as you describe. They even have a separate room for meetings, too.
If Lakewood Fudd's is willing to let 10-25 crazy thirdgenners use their restaurant for our meetings, then I say we try it out for our February 7th meeting. Anyone opposed?

I'll go there, only because I won't go to San Diego or Santa Barbara just to see the same dozen people I see every meeting!
(Or hanging out at Don's shop.) (On the other hand, if more peope would show up...)
Also we have meetings every 2 months so that's plenty of time to vote for a new place if it doesn't work out!
Remind me to bring up why we don't meet every month, because its easier to remember, for those of us with short term memory.

I think the reason that we don't meet every month is because we have enough trouble getting people to meet every other month. Because club members are spread out all over So Cal, no matter where we schedule a meeting, someone complains that it is too far to come. Just for information sake, the Lakewood Fudd's is probably about 1/2 way between Don's shop and Ricky & Ronnies location.
FYI the Southern Calif Chap of POCI has the same problem. At one time there were 3 clubs, San Diego, OC and the valley. They have come and gone. Currantly there is a SD chapter and So Cal but they constantly struggle.
Well you answered my other question that I didn't ask, (why not have seperate oc, SD and valley groups,) but I can see why not.
I guess being in the middle is best, and from what I've seen the more people you have the longer the group lasts.
Yep
And it takes a core group of members to keep it going.
When the original SCC/POCI split into SD and So Cal the So Cal power brokers moved it to the valley. It went thru a 4 or 5 sets of officers then disbanded. A lot of memorabilia from the first meetings was lost forever.

It really isn't so much more people as it is active people. 6 active members can keep a group going and welcome the ones who are able to show up from time to time. If 12 or more are active so much the better. 100 or even 200 inactive members don't really benefit a club.
I heard some crotch rockets raised hell and Sonic threw out the car guys too.
Yeah, thats basically true, but i know a few sportbike(myself included) guys have met there in the recent past with no issues.I dont see why car guys would have a problem!

im at the bottom of the barrel but i'd still drive up there for the meet's, nothin better than cruising the 5 listening to some tunes
I know the location(s) will be up there still so ill just sit back and observe. plus, kevin pointed out already why theres not many SD meet's... like the last one that tried to get put together.
the block at orange seemed like a big place. nothing there??

I don't know anything about the block at Orange. Nobody has posted any recommendations from there. One problem is that we are looking for a place with a private or semi private dining room where we can meet without having to compete with crowd noise.
