All I got was compliments when I was in my camaro in california. The only trouble I ever had was with jerky cops and smog people trying to give me a hard time - but with everything legal it's not a big deal. And it's not difficult to keep everything legal.

Re: The saddest thing I've ever had to do.

The nose piece is yours. All my stuff is at my buddies shop in Upland. Nobody has spoken up for the Eibach springs so if you still want them, they are yours too.

To the guys asking about the 1LE brakes, the one piece Im missing that I need to look for is the the caliper carrier and caliper bracket that mounts the PBR caliper to the spindle. One spindle and rotor is completely assembled. I'll throw in a set of new brake pads and braided steel hoses into the deal as well. Let me try and find those missing pieces then i will let you know how much Im asking. If I can find the pieces I will obviously lower the price.

The magazine industry has been dying a slow death over the past few years. Majority of people are getting their info. from the internet and most magazines don't put a whole lot into their online presence.

I used to work for Weider Publishing back from '01 to '03. It was fun while Mr. Weider owned the company. He then decided to retire and sold it off. The company that bought it has pretty much run it into the ground.

Hey Highgeared, did you ever work with Alex Flores or Doug Glad? Alex and I are good friends and worked at Weider together. Alex is still at Source Interlink. Not sure about Doug.

Doug used to be involved with our club and did a feature on our group for Car Craft.

Re: The saddest thing I've ever had to do.

Dang! Another nice 3rd gen bites the dust. Makes me sad. You should've kept it the same except for perhaps a color change and a new engine. That car was gorgeous!

I've noticed the trend in print magazines as well. It used to be where you could find at least a few in-depth articles with good info. These days, it seems to be just one big advertisement from cover to cover. More and more ads with BS articles squeezing out the once informative and useful articles.

I can't understand why 3rd gens are not popular. These cars should be hot right now. It can't be the lackluster stock performance because those highly coveted 1st and 2nd gens that are on all the magazine covers were not that great either. Comparing them to today's cars that is. At least the 3rd gen had world class handling and a decent top speed on certain models. Ability to increase performance? Well, you can mod a 3rd gen as well. Maybe not as easily as an older F-body, but at least the initial purchase cost is a lot cheaper than stepping into a nice 1st gen or early 2nd gen car. It just doesn't make any sense why 3rd gens are as unpopular as they are.

Re: The saddest thing I've ever had to do.

In time they will become a collectors car but right now there are just too many of them out there which keeps the values down (how many third gens did chevrolet build over the 10 years? I know they built over 167,000 IROC camaros over the 5 years!! Now add in all the Z28's and RS's and you have a ton of third gens out there.
Look how much the IROC convertibles are going up in value--they are skyrocketing but there were only 9000 made.
I remember being in high school (1983) and you could buy just about any mustang, camaro, chevelle or whatever for a few thousand dollars. My first car was a 1967 mustang coupe with a 289 V8--purchase price $1700! Now look at them!!

Not to sound cold but every third gen that ends up in a junkyard or is wrecked increases the values of the ones still on the road. As time goes on they will become more collectible and will get more magazine coverage.

Man that sucks, I have those pictures of your car when you first got it even before the red paint, the suspension and air ride, I have the mag cut outs in a binder. It was my inspiration when I had my 88 Iroc, I remember you said you bought from your brother right? I too feel your pain, I worked my a** off for my company and then got a notice that March, 27th is my last day. On a side note, I also have the article when you installed those TOKICO shocks, they merged with my company. Well hopefully everything goes well.

We have 3 major problems:
It is not easy to bolt on a few items and dramatically improve performance. That is true of first, early second, and most 4th gen cars. Ironically, LT1 4th gens are not especially valuable either and are pretty comprable or better than LS1's performance when you consider $$ spent. They're just not the "hot" thing.

We are smog era, and that turns of many hot-rodders and traditional enthusiasts. You want cheap? Look at the later 2nd gens. After the Bandit, you can't give 'em away.

There are still too many ratty ones around. When all the ratty ones disappear, and you only see an occasional cherry one, the prices will go upwards. I still think they are some of the best looking cars ever built, but what do I know

Man I am so sorry to hear you got laid off too. we live in some bad times right now.

Im also flattered that you followed the build on my Camaro. My brother got married and moved to florida, he sold me the Camaro for 1,200 bones. I see 3rd gens all the time in decent shape going for the same price.

Re: The saddest thing I've ever had to do.

I think Third gens are still just a bit of a "young" market with prices staying low. They will catch on as they are definately bad *** cars. I think you have a lot of guys that find it difficult to justify spending alot of time and money on a car that wont give you anywhere near the return on your investment as a 1st or 2nd gen Camaro or Nova or Chevelle. And, lets face it, most of them you see on the streets are crap. Not too many really nice ones at shows. But as the population ages a bit and these cars become the "car of our youth" we will see some really good ones getting built. Once the general car population gets past the disco thing and some good ones make their rounds, they will go. And yes, mags are suffering but the muscle car and street rod enthusiast stuff not nearly as much as the crowd that owns those cars are still fans of the magazines. That industry is no where near as devistated as the newspapers which have to rely on a generation that just doesnt read.
And damn layoffs suck. But, from a business stand point, I know our company had a round of layoffs but 90% of the guys who got let go were the slackers who should have been gone a long time ago. Its sad for the good ones that get caught up in the mix. I sure highgeared was one of those. Probably the hardest working guy at his company.

Joe you gave yourself away man. I have your number and Jimmy's number too, who Im sure is "Camaro Guy". So how is it working for a bankrupt magazine company?

How is it being unemployed?

I deleted my post about where you took those wheels from. might just be a good idea for you let this go.

Letting go? Who is the "anonymous" magazine guy that registered on this site just to mouth off? You can dish out but can't take it. Judging by the time stamp you did this during business hours at work. Way to spend company time, at least I have the courage to sign my name, what about you?

As for being unemployed, you assume too much. It's a big planet we live on and Super Chevy Magazine and Source Interlink don't control the income or job opportunities.

As ex-"evil empire" staff, I can say looking back that getting laid off from that company was one of the best things that ever happened to me, but it didn't feel like it at the time.

Bahhh, Just like TA says, at first It was quite upsetting, but life goes on and good things happen if you make them happen.

Getting laid off turned out to be a blessing is disguise.

The last time I got laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me work wise.
The times before weren't, but thats the beast of my vocation.

i didnt come to your regional board. i always click "new posts" up on the top bar and i saw "sadest thing i ever had to do" kind of eye catching so i clicked on it. didnt really matter what board it was on. and stop trying to be the TGO police or something. if i feel like mouthing off, and you dont like it, then dont get in the middle of it. saying somehting like that is obviously going to frustrate me more, thus making me say more **** to piss you off.

I third that sentiment. There is a regional board for rude a$$holes like you in the midwest, this regional board is for rude a$$holes from Southern California!!
