my cousin's husband used to be a state trooper in a western state with a lot of lightly traveled interstate. when i asked him what was the fastest speed of any car he ever pulled over he said it was about 128 mph (at night). but he said the same thing - if they hadn't slowed down when he turned on his lights he couldn't have caught them with his patrol car. i really expected a much higher speed. at the judge's office in the county courthouse they post the highest speed speeding ticket given out each week. would be interesting to know what the all-time record was!

Not bad for a little six banger, huh?
I don't want to post how fast I was going, as I don't want anything coming back to me.

Time to fess up George and tell us how fast you've had that bad boy on a "private road".

Corvette Fever magazine tested one when they were new in their "High Dollar Speed Wars" article and it spanked an '89 Vette by hitting 161 mph.

Certain responsibilities come with driving the flagship!!!

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

If I had the money to build any car I wanted, It would be a TTA hands down.

Oh what I could do to one- there would not be anything that could touch it. I would then have to fly it over to Nuburing to run against the exotics like Bugotti Veyron, Koenggsleg (sp?), I would eat for lunch that misserable ZR1 vette, etc........oh the fun I could have with a TTA + a $40,000 budget, A TIG welder and a whole lot of aluminum on a CNC mill

Dean

ps- My second choice I have already, but its gonna be a little squirelly someday at over 150 with the short wheelbase- My '67 Mini cooper S chassis.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

Yesterday heading to Los Angeles, I was with my girl and my best friends and his girl. On our way to LA a 5.0 Mustang want to pass me by going on the bus lane on the carpool
As I floor the pedal to the bottom, i notice the Mustang lights getting smaller and smaller, when I checked out my speed i was going 109MPH on the 110Freeway at night. Even with 4 people in my camaro it felt like we were flying on the road.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

I went 140 or so when my Iroc was stock and buried my new 145 speedometer with the l98 modified vette engine. I also have a 1974 type lt Z28 that buried the 130 mph speedometer with the stock L82 in it. I did have a 1996 LT1 Z28 that I went over 150 in 5th gear in. I ran my Iroc up to 120 after I got off work tonight and did a few burnouts.

Fastest ticket I know of several years back was "BigRed" 1st gen Camaro that won the Silver state classic It also held the fastest closed circuit oval MPH for a street car.
From what I remeber the airplane COP got him accross the Arizona desert @ 224mph. It was a great shot in the newspapar of the owner PROUDLY holding the ticket with Big Red behind him ...AND the COP and Police airplane in the background with arms crossed.
(A quick check-up)
Opps, a new one since 2003.
"
The Koenigsegg CC is attributed with being awarded the fastest ever speeding ticket, 242mph in Texas, USA, during the Gumball 3000 rally race of 2003. ..."

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

On that note, I someday want to be able to say I have breeched the 200MPH mark. I've had my Vette up to top speed numerous times but easily run out of gear. I had the racing tires on it @ Calif Speedway and have momentarily hit 7500rpms (8500 redline) and let it back down becasue I do not want to hold it at those RPMs. the car has a special Corvette gear of 3.36's. I will someday put some 3.08's into it and see if I can hit the high Oval if every given the chance again. I have shown before a shot of me walking away from the Porsche/Ferrari club of SanDiego at an open track event @ Calif Speedway many years back. They were short booked and let a bunch of us "outside acquintances" out there with them. I wish I was better prepared that day with better gearing- instead of hitting 165 before the S/F line and then backing down the rpms, the 3.08's i figure will pull me down the straight next time to over 185 then off for the corner bank entrance instead of lifting way early to save the motor from gear max.

I have been 178 in a drag car (DarrelYoungs 8.90 Nova), but that don't count it happens so quick. Sustaining speed is what counts and takes both skill and equipment.....242? Wow, I can't imagine, one wrong rise in the road and you are an airplane!

Lisa and I pulled the Vette out resently, she had never ridden in it so I took her up to do some pre race exibition70mph burnouts in front of the crowd ar Toyota Speedway last month.

I miss my Camaro though! I would love to run some oval laps in it for fun. I would be good for about two laps then I would overheat the tires and lap times would drop.
