Having lived in Falls Church, Virginia for three years, I can assure you SoCal is incredibly different. I was born here and although I lived out of state for most of my life, I missed every moment away from this unique coastal desert which happens to be the epicenter of hot rodding. I know you'll have a great time here.
great to hear that guys!!! i will post up when i leave and when i get there after i get everything set up..
Yeah, post up when you come down. I dont know how Virgina is but I CA is cool I guess, you get sick of the tax's real quick tho, plus there are way to many rules. As far as the car seen goes its really fun, you never know what you might see at meets
If I read your post right you'll be staying in Mexico, so if it was me I'd find a way to store my car in San Diego and get myself a real beater to drive in Mexico and across the border. I'd be way too worried about getting it stolen living there and wouldn't want to draw any unnecessary attention to myself. If it does get stolen you'll definitely never see it again. TJ (if that's where you'll be staying) isn't exactly known for being safe.
Welcome to SoCal.
(once ya get here)
I live up in the high desert, but can tell you there are a great bunch of people out here to meet who own 3rd gens.
I also own a teal 91 vert.
I have to agree with getting another car once ya move out here.
Especially if you are moving to Mexico.
Put the car in storage and buy a beater for daily driving.
Enjoy it on the weekends type of thing.
It depends on the town you're going to move to.
And how good the neighborhood is.
Just like any other place in the world.
well it really wont be in a "town" i dont think atleast.. from what my father is saying we are in the middle of nowhere. his company is starting a mine. a gold vain was found last year and we are moving there to start the dig im ganna be one of the first people there. i would feel more secure about having the car with me at all times.. i would like to see someone steal it with no steering wheel and also theres my pittbulls to get around. which will be on an invisible fence around the area that the car is going to be garaged where i also will be sleeping, also the property around the buildings will have an 8ft chain link fence around it.. i also have my cwp (concealed weapons permit)and usually have one on me.. gatta look into the laws over there about it but as for now i wish i didnt have to get rid of my honda accord it would be perfect to drive everyday cause its my beater but my dad said that its either the honda or camaro so the hondas hitting the road cause the maros my baby.. thanks on the info about the area tho. mabey i will change my mind about it when i get there but as for now i dont know anyone there that would allow me to park my car there and cant afford a storage space right now untill i start getting my checks from the company... also we might be looking for workers once we get there and i would much rather run a crew of people that i can actually talk to and understand when they talk back to me so we might have a few openings if anyones interested, but ill know more once we get there
Id be more concerned about your camaro falling apart than getting stolen, the speed bumps and roads are brutal. Put on some cheap wheels and you wont be so much of a target for theft. Gun is no problem as long as you pay off the police like pretty much everything else illegal there. What city is the job in.. I might be interested/ know people that might be.
Yep, I would watch it where you park your camaro here in SoCal. And even though a neighborhood looks nice and safe during the day usually becomes a gang infested murder spree for local gangs by night. As it is in my neighborhood. So if you dont know a neighborhood too well, dont be cruising in it, and stay out of the residential areas, thats when a dozen gangbangers can surround you and rob you at gunpoint, and your weapons permit wont do you any good at that point. Me being hispanic have almost nothing to worry about. But its different for you, and your gonna neeed to learn espanol. And now that your scared and have **** in your pants, Welcome to Southern Califas homie.

i dont quite know yet what city but ill let u all know as soon as i do
you will be close to san diego and you should get a storage place there for your car.
welcome to cal.
cali - is short for calexico a town in the imperial valley of cal.
you will love california - that is why everyone comes here.
I dont know all your details, but there is a 99% chance you wont get a CCW in CA. Americans are not allowed to take guns into Mexico. And the drug gangs along the border are running wild.
Personally I would pick a job in Iraq over one in Mexico today.
Kris you can't get a CCW in Cali you are to young. You cannot legally own a pistol here till your 21. The area you'll be in is patrolled by THE BORDER PATROL AND SHERIFF'S you get caught with a concealed weapon by them and you'll be looking at 2yrs in the pen easy at your age! Oh by the way do you have your smog equipment? Cali smog laws suck, everything you have done to your car better have an EO- number or it won't pass smog. But other than that stuff welcome to socal! If you wan't to meet the club there's a grip of us meeting at Mimi's Cafe the location is in another thread in here hope to see you their! Oh and don't let the stuff I said get you down we all have to deal with cali's crappy laws.
well like i said i will be living in mexico and traveling back to forth to cali so i wont have a cali address so i dont have to go by cali smog laws and im thinking of leaving car with va tags on it leaving it registered to my moms address so i really wont have to bother with the smog laws.. ive red up on them and idk how u guys can deal with that bs... and about the gun.. o well ill pack it away and only keep it in the garage

Dealing with smog laws is not really a problem as long as you take the time to understand what you can and cannot do before you start. Kevin can do a custom chip that will make most anything pass the tail pipe test. Most smog techs at the test only stations don't know what the stock cars look like so they just do the visual inspection of the engine. If they see the cat or cats installed, the air pump and tubing for it on the exhaust manifold, and the various other bits, they pass it on visual. Occasionally you get a tech who won't pass anything that is not "bone stock" including the iron exhaust manifolds, or you will get a guy who wants to climb all over the car to look for CARB EO numbers on everything. If you get one of those guys, just tell him to forget it and take the car elsewhere. We even had one member install a tpi in a 1983 or 84 model and take it for smog. The tech didn't say anything, just passed it. Where the difficulty lies is if you put a later model engine in like an Lt1 or Ls1, you have to take it to a state referee to get it signed off. They will go over it with a "fine tooth comb" and gig you for any little thing. The other thing to keep in mind is that you can't replace your efi with a carb unless the carb was available on your year. Then if you do put a carb on the engine, it can only be the factory carb, no Demons, Holleys, etc.

We deal with it because we like breathing cleaner air, and because if done properly the emissions devices do not affect wide open throttle horsepower. Also, you do still have to go by US smog laws if the car is registered and driven on US soil.
If you pass by the same cop several days in a row with a Virginia or Mexico license plate, he will pull you over and ask you questions. We have a member with Mexico plates who was stopped and had to go to court and see a judge. He also lives here for six months and in Mexico for six months.
