Hey guys, Ive been thinking about changing my gears from stock to either 3.90 or 4.10's, I was talking to my cousing and he says it costs around $500 for the change, do you know of any place in the SoCal, L.A. area that does the gear change for cheaper? Can you please let me know where and how much. Thanks a lot.

Dyno Don is definitely the man to get in touch with.
greygoose, do you know whether it's difficult to do on your own?
Well truth be told when you’re watching a professional like Don with the correct equipment do it, he makes it look easy. A friend helped me swap the gears in my 86 and I helped him swap gears in his 85 so I’m familiar with the process. I’m also familiar with what a pain in the *** it is to do it in a driveway on jack stands. It’s messy, cramped, and irritating. When it came time to address the gear situation in my 89 I ended up swapping the complete rear end because to me it was easier to swap out the rear end than to pop the cover and play with gears.
Depending on how your rear end is set up now (brakes, axles, ratio, etc.) you might get more bang for your buck if you look into a complete rear end with better hardware. Why would you swap gears into your current rear end if you could have a stronger better equipped unit installed for the same money? Just a little food for thought…
