i was pretty impressed i took my car to cms in lake elsinore.
ryne did a great job with the car
he is a well known tuner in the lsx platform
put down 342 hp and 366 tq.
its a o2 ls1 with a t56 4th gen rear and 4th gen fuel tank
not bad at all for just a ported tb and cold air intake
car weighing at 3280 itself
aftermarket heavy 18" wheels
full 4th gen interior and my custom 4th gen ac and heater working.
definately worth it. !!
little history of the car i replaced my tpi which gave out may 2008.
i found a great deal in riverside for the ls1 engine and harness on the 4th gen k member which had 53k miles on it.
it was a easy install with spohn motor mounts. the 4th gen dash was more of a hassle.
but well worth it.
cant wait to do actual work not too crazythough. i wanna keep it smog legal and pass inspection. i went back to the aftermarket cold air intake.
the car is definately a sleeper.
and the car is very quiet.
That thing is ****in FAST, for what you have done to it! Nice set up, thats what I would want but I think I'm just going with a 355ci, I dont think I could afford an lsx/t56 swap.
Is that not a DynoDynamics dyno? If so it reads lower than say a Dynojet and you will have more rwhp in comparison. You need to join us the next time at the track.
very impressive numbers while still running cast iron manifolds. Throw some long tube headers and a better flowing exhaust to open up the bottle neck and you'll be at about 360=370 to the wheels.
Just for comparisons sake I wonder how your power curve compares to head and cam TPI dyno numbers where power peaks at 4800 rpm. I predict the TPI's will make more torque but fall short in the top end.
thanks for the comments guys.
its a healthy engine
peak hp is great doesnt die out
i used to struggle against ls1s in my cammed up tpi. and pulled on me on their 3rd gear ..
there was nothing else i couldve done to keep up besides a power adder. too much $$
so i went the ls1 platform. and had some weight savings.

I would like to know
why wouldnt it?
stock ls1.
air system hooked up with the stock 02 manifolds.
evap set up working functionally
cats located in the stock location as a 4th gen
and a tpi air cleaner set up
theres plenty of rx7 and 240s in so cal passing smog with ls1s. .
well i think labor costs depend on whether you do the work yourself or not, and what type of deal you find on a good used ls1. Theres a shop in south Gate, South Gate Dyno that does lsx swap into gm vehicles, the last car i saw in his shop was and 85 el camino. I was quoted 25-2700 for labor alone, and roughly 6500 if they provided motor, trans and everything else. Not bad considering it only takes a few weeks for the complete swap. Real nice guys by the way, problem is most of us dont have $6500 to spend at once, so we do minor modifications bit by bit as money rolls in. but a comparison in budget would be great
i had respect for that torque in my old set up.
but i do have a lot of receipts that much more money was invested on my cammed up tpi in just parts compared to the new set up and interior which has been running for about a year..
i never noticed how much hp i lost at 4800 rpm in my old tpi but then i saw it in the dyno.
so i changed my plans. as young tgo member i also got into the ls1tech forums. i thought the ls1 would be fun and easy especially already running a ls1 t56 tranny on the sbc and a 4th gen diff.
all i needed was to clean up the engine. new belts. new plugs n wires. couple of hours of soldering and drop in that sucker at home get someone to do my exhaust.
bill said we would have to count all the dollars to see who got the most bang for the buck.
i didnt spend that much $$
i think all that matters is being satisfied for what you have built.
overall im am satisfied with its power. reliability, weight savings. gas mileage, and low cost expenses within the year.

not bad in my opinion compared to anywhere else.
i spent a lot less though its better doing it you self and funner.
also some of us liek myself have already spent money on an sbc tpi set up, i have money already invested in exhaust and other parts, going the ls1 route would mean not reusing some of my old parts and seeing that money go to waste. I think if i were to get another car, i would seriously consider going with an lsx from the start, but at this point i would be happy enough if my car just ran lol. Either way terrors car is very nice, i've seen it in person and it definitily turns alot of heads, i would love to see it at the next drag meet though im sure it would surprise alot of people its a hell of a sleeper...
You will need to have your Ls1 inspected by a referee and get the bar code sticker for the door. Smog techs might overlook that the Ls1 is too new for your car, but you are better off with the bar code and safe rather than having hassles. I would suggest geting the inspection done and the sticker before you install headers or any other bolt-ons. The closer it is to a stock Ls1 when you take it to the ref, the better your chances of getting it by the first time.

I estimate ~ $4500 into the motor of my combo (parts &labor; Dyno Don did a lot of the motor & exhaust work ).
Going for more tuning w/ 30# injectors tomorrow.
Functional EGR installation soon.
Bill
Nice set up specially through the auto, any track times? Those numbers are not typical of most TPI, Stealth Ram or HSR set ups. We were looking into the HSR before we pulled the trigger on the LS1. It looks like you sacrifice a little torque down low for better top end when compared max effort TPI set ups.
I think costs wise TPI Terror spent about $3,000 on the low mile SS LS1, conversion motor and trans mounts, LS1 fuel tank, dyno tunning, harness rewiring, welding and misc parts for the swap. The real cost is the labor which is totally worth it when you surprise 4th gen F-bodies, C5 and C6 vettes but most importantly those supercharged cobras.

hey man do you have any more pictures of your iroc? im wanting to do a shade of blue similar to yours and i realy like the way it looks from the side...was hoping that maby you had more to show.
agree with Z28FAST1
those 04 cobras ask me to pop my hood since my car is so quiet..
i have a build thread on the ltx and lsx forums along with videos.
i would love to see the track soon when i get a hold of some sticky tires.

+1 Cuz if its as much or not much more than building a 355ci thats what I'll do. How does your car handle? I'd imagine that it handles way better
the thing is when i did the swap . i also did a lot of interior work and accesories.
i did a lot of details i didnt have to but i had some money saved up .
3000k was spent on the engine and tranny which came with a computer and harness.
the rest was up to me. wether i wanted to redo the interior and add some looks to it.
the car handles pretty good.
tokicos would be nice and redoing the front suspension tie rod ends, strut mounts, etc.
i wanna do a big brake upgrade too
Having a little experience with builds I can give you a quick estimate for a basic 355 TPI build:
Aftermarket heads $1200-1400
Rebuild kit(pistons, bearing, etc.) $600-$1000
Aftermarket Lower Manifold and Runners $700-800
Cam $200
1.6 Rockers and hardened pushrods $250
Aftermarket 52 mm throttle Body $320
Underdrive pullies $150
Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator $60
Machine Shop labor to assemble short block $400-600
Tuning $250-$400
Miscellaneous(gaskets, hoses, etc.) $200
Minimum of $4,000 -$5,000 depending on what bolts ons (headers, exhaust, adequate tranny, etc) you have already and granted you're buying all new parts.
This does not take into consideration extensive porting to the intake and plenum to achieve higher numbers, additional head porting, etc. to achieve record setting numbers like 370 rwhp from a TPI which I'll admit never thought possible from a "stock cube" TPI until recently. You would have to ask what else was done and what additional expenses were incurred.
The typical and average build will net you 300-330 rwhp at 5,800rpm. So you’ll have a TPI motor with heads, cam, full bolt ons that will hang with most bolt on LS1’s
It won't hang with cam only LS1 which easily make over 400-420 rwhp and carry well over 6,800 rpm. Add heads to the LS1 and you’re around 440-460 on typical builds.
BTW, I respect TPI motors and would take one over any 4 or 6 cyl but technology continues to evolve and I'm all for it!
Ramair21 has passed smog on his ls set up hes in cali aswell.
hes running a 4l60e . with stall. hes in the 12s stock ls1.
running air system . and changed his air intake after gettin the referee to pass the car while using a tpi air duct. .
