New camaro?

I'm going to go look at an 87 RS this afternoon. The car looks like it is in awsome shape but (theres always a but) he says he bought it in grand junction where they don't have emissions. It has a 350 out of an older (gen2) camaro and has no knock sensors or crank sensor so the computer doesn't work properly even though it runs and drives great. Anybody know anything about stuff like that, can you add those sensors to an older block?

Yep, all of the mounting provisions are there. The knock sensor screws into the coolant jacket drain hole, which has been on every SBC since 1955.

The crank sensor is actually a cam sensor, aka "distributor".

Thanks man, I just wasn't sure about those. until recently my newest camaro was an 82! I looked at an 89 rs earlier today but it needed so much body work that I think I'll pass on that one. This 87 sounds nice but needs some mechanical work which is more up my alley.

Well here's the real story. This guys son bought the car and drove it home, runs great, drives great. He could not get it to pass emissions, he sold the car, next people could not get it through. He took the car back and is selling it again but letting people know it will not pass. This car has a carb!? Are all 87's carbed? We ran the vin and it is a v-8 car. It has a computer controlled rochester and the check engine light is on. The emission people said it will never pass emissions. That sounds like a bunch of crap to me. Anybody got any ideas?

VIN "H" would be the computer controlled carb. Carb'd V8's will pass emissions when everything is in order. Most likely the carb (and possibly distributor) have been replaced with non-CC parts. If that's the case, it will never pass emissions until the proper carb & distributor are put back on.

Awsome, thanks for the info. I think I'll leave this one alone though. If the body would have been better I'd have bought it for sure, but it was rough too.
