I was stuck at work today with the big storm just taking over all the city. Once I got out at 8:30 I had to drive my TA back home. With the roads frozen over and the 3 inches of snow on top of it, the weather spelled a lethal combination for the car. I ran a red light, and three stop signs because I could not stop, but I was looking waaay ahead and I drove very carefully that I got home fine without any dings, but this is the last time I will ever take the TA in snow (although its my only car, and usually it stays covered untill I need it and all). So, I really dodged a big one going home. I saw two accidents happen right infront of me with a 4 wheel subaru and a truck, and I think it was a jeep (I don't know). Damn, it sucks when you have a rear wheel drive and some power behind it. My other firebird had no problem with snow, however this one is exactly like my 79. I just gotta tell you that I dodged a bullet today, and no more snow driving if I can help it.
I saw the snow and I said to myself "this car is not staying at this parking lot tonight, no chance in hell that I will leave my car there", so I was stubborn a bit.
I drove my sport coupe in the snow for 3 years, and only wrecked it once! I drove the Z28 for one year and it was hell! I had 17" billet wheels with 245 all the way around.... It was a "sled". I got lucky this year and had one of my customers that did not want her Subaru anymore, so now I can go anywhere in the snow.
I've driven the Camaro daily since August, 1999, except for June-July 2005 (putting the 350 shortblock in).
I drove it home last night at about 6 p.m. with the GS-C's still on. Mostly wet roads, some starting to stick. Made it home without incident. Before going to bed, I put the studded snows 4 corners. Only problem getting into work today was 5 mph traffic for a couple of miles.
I saw a lot of third gens out today. If you know how to drive then you can drive anything in the snow! the people I saw shouldn't have been out today though. passed one on the highway, he was doing 20mph. Saw one spin out, luckily he didn't hit anything though! I always thought my V6 camaro did pretty good in the snow, no power, tall skinny tires! The V8 you can't get it to move. Especially with fat low pro tires. Thats why I have two big 4*4s along with 2 3rd gens.
mine hasn't been out of storage since the last club meeting
mines sitting in the garage nice and clean and toasty lol and will be for awhile....my truck kicks *** in the snow, i was worried casue of the tires that are on it from the last owner but in four wheel it was good.....although since i work at an ice rink and drive the zamboni by night the oh say 800 pounds of snow i dumped in the bed didnt hurt things, i never so much as broke loose and that included pulling out three stuck cars with my wicked two strap , made forty bucks off of it in 2 days, and the diesel doesnt even feel all the snow in the bed
Didnt have any problems in my 03 Ram cummins SWB SO 4wd.
For roughly 10 years my old 87 GT mustang and 87 Iroc where my only vehicles. during that time I lived in Iowa/Nebraska/Colorado. i have neve lived where it doesnt snow.
I drove from Nebraska to Fort Collins, CO, pretty much all interstate, around Christmas or Thanksgiving in 2004 when it was the first snow of the season. It was a blizzard that wasn't even supposed to happen but I drove in it for 13 hours. Normally its a 7 hour trip. I don't think I would have made it if the V6 was an automatic.
Whatever my next winter beater will be, it will have a manual and hopefully be a 4x4...
I had to drive mine this week also. it sucks but I had no choice. I sold my BMW this summer so I only have one beater know And my wife had it that day!
