I have an 89 Pontiac Firebird. When I take off from a dead stand still and really give it gas, like just punching it...I hear a lound popping sound from what sounds like the right front wheel. Anyone have any idea what this might be? I have NO experience in the chasis, suspension area. So I was hoping someone could help me out on this. Thanks in adavance.

tranny mount

Thanks Man! Is this something that is very hard to repair? Is it something that is loose or is it something that could be broken? Or either?

yea my freinds camaro did the same thing and I think it was the trans mount. Its not that hard to replace. Just take off the bolts raise up the trans a bit (you could use a jack) then put in the new one.

mine was broke in two pieces. easy to replace, i used an energy suspension poly one.

Okay guys, I have the tranny mount from summit, now, I guess I am going to attempt to install this thing myself. What am I lokking for here? Is this above the Tranny, under it or what? I was hoping you guys could kinda point me to the spot! I would really appreciate it.

Ok when you are under the car

You will (or Should =) ) see where the drive shaft connects to the tranny.

There is a cross bar called the tranny cross member it should be a relativley flat bar that the back end (tail shaft) of the tranny rests on.

The rubber chunk between the cross member and the tail shaft is the transmission mount.

If you jack the tail shaft up the rubber most likely will be split in 2 pieces. It's should be one solid piece.

If the sound is coming from the right front tire it could be a loose sway bar. i was experiencing the same problem with mine and found my endlinks needed replacing. Wouldn't you hear the noise in the tunnel if it were the trans?
