What size tires on a 16" GTA rim?Whats gona rub?

I have an 88 GTA with 16" GTA rims. How big can you go with tires on the rear and front before you might run into a problem. So far i have 255 50 16's on the back and they look good. Would they also fit on the front without rubbing when i cut my wheel??? Thanks...Al in NJ

255 is as far as I would go. I had 265's on my 15x7 and they rubbed on the front. I am sure you could go with 265's on the rear but its kinda tuff to find a GOOD tire that makes anything bigger then 255 for a 16" rim. 255 is more then enough tire though for a street car if the tire is good quality. Throwing some junk tire on there like Pepboy tires thinking since there wider, they will be better, will quickly have you second guessing. Stick with the 255/50 and look for a good tire like Sport Pilots or Firehawk's.
