275 40 17 Tire on 17" x 8.5" Wheels?

My tires are shot and I'd like wider ones for better traction. I have 17x8.5 wheels and am currently running 245 45 17 tires.

On tirerack the 275 40 17s are listed for 9" and wider rims. Do you think I'll have any trouble putting 275 40 17s on my 8.5" rims?

Thanks.

you need AT LEAST a 9" rim for a SAFE fit.
