Can I put an 88-90 steering column in my '91?

Mine is all crappy, tilt is messed up and there is no turn signal. I found a couple steering columns on eBay, one in particular was from an '88 GTA. It doesn't have a steering wheel, but I want to get an '86 wheel anyway.

The column for sale comes with the key, but do I need the vats, or can I swap in mine? Is it hard to do?

Thanks guys!

It will be easier to repair your current column rather than try to swap in a non-SRS column. The tilt issue is very common, and the solution can be searched for here. The lack of turn signals could be something as simple as a flasher, but if its in the column, you'll be there when you go to fix the tilt. I've done both (replacing the whole column, and fixing the tilt issue (on MANY cars)), and I'd recommend just fixing your current unit.

95% of the time any used one you get will have the same symptoms you already have, might be better, might be worse :-)

Just fix yours. Its not that hard, just time consuming until you do a few. Go slow, get a manual and be very careful of falling pieces and make sure everything goes back from where it came.

U wont have to spend a dime unless u find the stalk or turn signal cam is broken and even then its a 4$(cam) or $50(switch).

The tilt issue is solved with tightening 4 bolts and if your smart using a dot of lock tite on each one.

later

Dimmer switch is messed up, tilt is messed up, turn signal stalk is non-existant, and my patience is in the red. The turn signal, hazards, and horn aren't relays, I've just wasted $20 on relays. It's an electrical short or something. I'll let a shop figure that out.

Anyway, I think I have found a '91-92 column anyways. Thanks guys!
