Hey guys I've been doing some searching here on the board about manual boxes and here in the local pick and pull I found a box from a 91 s10 4 cylinder.I know some have said that it takes 7 turns lock to lock with these boxes but before I removed it from the truck it on took 4 turns lock to lock.
I know this is strange to me because with my power steering in my car now it only takes 1 1/2 turns from lock to lock.Did they make tighter ratio boxes for some of these trucks or is it normal? It has the 4 bolt cover on it just for clarification. Does anybody know?

Not totally sure about the year that is desireable, but it is my understanding that the early 80s box, with the four bolt cover is the one. I recently put one on my car, that I had won on Ebay, and it had the seven turn, lock to lock. Maybe being a 91, they could have changed. While the box was sitting on my work bench, I turned the splined shaft, and it was seven. Three and a half turns, put the flat part of the splines straight up, and thats where I installed mine, wheels straight. A frontend alignment will get it all perfect.
Driving on the street, or on the freeway, how would you describe the difference ? Is it really hard to turn, do you have to turn the steering wheel a lot and real fast to make a sharper turn ?

mine doesn't seem to be 7 turns lock to lock either, but it's still a worthwhile swap, although i'm on skinnies in the front and it was unbearable with the iroc rims on the front with 245s for a while
