koni spa-1's bottom out

i have cut 2- 2.5 coils off of my moroso drag springs and its sitting quite low now. problem now is i can take my hands and press down on the front fender to make the car bottom out on the struts. it has about 2-3" downward travel before it stops. i had read where it was common practice to remove 2-2.5 coils off these springs, so im guessing the shock bodies are taller than stock maybe?
anyone else had this problem? i guess ill start looking into a coilover setup for it.

Get the Spohn strut mounts. They add another a bit more room for strut travel.

This seems to be a common problem when you try to get the car super low especially with a coilover set up. I am in the process of building some shorter ( 2.00") strut housings that will use a single or double adjustable Koni insert. David Houser 'King of the Hill" car will be getting the first set as he has ruinied his Lakewoods due to bottoming out.....I will update my website as I make progress.

ive been considering fabbing up my own strut mounts. the way i was going to do this was using a spare set of mounts... cutting the raised portion off of that mount and welding it onto another mount, basically. i think it should add a good 2" in strut height and still fit under the hood. might look somewhat crazy, however.
im more concerned with function.

im VERY worried with how the car will behave on its debut pass the way it is right now!!!

Moroso actually recomends cutting 1/2 a coil not 2-2.5 coils if you had to cut that much you have the wrong spring rate.

i wouldnt be able to see over the nose of the car if i only cut .5 coils off. 1 coil was higher than stock.

this car is light.

You have the wrong spring rate. What does the front half weigh? If you dont know find out and call Moroso to get the correct spring

The springs you have should be p/n 47210 a 220lb/in spring that means it take 220lb to compress 1" they are designed for 82-92Fbody that weighs 1680-1750lbs on the front half.Moroso's app chart is only a guideline for these springs they use factory weight specs for the apps, they dont know how much weight you took out of your car.Since you had to cut so much off Im guessing your car is a lot lighter on the front. You have to get the front half weighed the car must be race ready, all the weight in including fuel, stereo, driver, floor mats, nos bottles, roll bar, etc, etc you get the idea.Once you know the weight contact a tech with your info and they should be able to get you the correct ones .

well, i took it to the track anyway, and it did ok. this was the 3rd or 4th pass EVER on this car. ignore the hood being off, its a lift off, and i was being lazy. lol
pass wound up being a 7.46@94 with a 1.58. engine is an LT1 with mildly ported heads and a 230/236 cam.

I ended up cutting 2-2.5 coils off my trick springs too, my car is pretty light in the front end too. With only .5-1 coil cut off my car was way higher than stock, looked like a 4x4.
