just tooling around the other day and found that Jegs sell an un-welded tube chassis kit based on the 3rd gen has anyone here seen it/used it/or know anything good/bad about it. this may be an interesting project down the road to make a hardcore street/race vehicle
I can tell you first hand that you are money ahead contacting Chris Alston chasis and buying a complete welded chasis vs trying to build an unassembled kit yourself. Watched my brother in law buy the unassembled tube chasis for a regla project of his and is now $1800 over what the completely assembled kit cost...and he's not done yet.
Assuming you alredy have the welder, chasis jig, tubeing bender-yes they still need tweaking for perfect fit, grinders, notcher, etc...they're not just a open the box, throw it on the garage floor and start welding deal....lots of time making sure everything is perfectly level, square, and proper fitment. You can make your own chasis jig for about $800 for what I would consider a basic-no frills type that will get the job done. just try to figure out what your going to do with the thing ocne your done with it before you build it LOL. awful big and heavy piece of equipment to sit long side the garage.
Not to mention that a tube chassis car means what you see on the outside is just cosmetics. All the body panels (usually fiberglass) are hung off the tube chassis and add no support or strength to the chassis itself.
