eliminating stock axle toque arm

I am in the process of a 350/700r swap into our 82/Z28. the tranny has no mounts for the stock camaro toque arm. Can I bolt in lakewood Action Lift Traction bars (Jegs part#620-21700) and eliminate the need for the stock toque arm. I am just learning this GM stuff so any help would be appreciated.

I have a mount for the factory tq arm if you need it (the clam shell). It bolts up to the tailhousing. I replaced my factory tq arm with a tunnel mounted setup from UMI.

Those lift bars were never ment to work without the torque arm, they just aren't made strong enough. On top of that they are a horrible design and have been discussed in depth on here several times. Might want to do a search.

I think it's B&M that makes a conversion kit that allows you to bolt a turbo 350 into a thirdgen. It's basically a kit that moves the torque arm off of the tranny and onto the crossmember where it should have been mounted to begin with.

- the factory suspension design is fine, it just needs upgraded components to serve for great performance. - There are a few companies that make a "kit" for installing a non-factory trans. Do a search, it's been covered many times.

Re: eliminating stock axle toque arm

After reading the replys I went back into the jegs catalog and found a jegs toque arm with bolt in mount, adj. and non adj. They had it listed in the shock section of the catalog. (go figure) any way part3 550-40095 non adj. and 550-40097 adj. the price is 259.99 and 304.99. This will work I'm on a short time frame only 4 vacation days left.
Thanks for all the help. Waldo

i would stay away from the jegs piece, they are problematic and a PITA to install

A thirdgen is a thirdgen, that swap kit will work fine. In fact in the summit catalog it's part # huu-5500001 and is listed for 82-91 camaro's. After looking at it closely I see that it bolts to the tranny via the tail shaft bolts. It only costs $95.

Re: eliminating stock axle toque arm

The jegster arm is pretty popular on here, it bolts up to the tranny tunnel right? Nice short arm.

You could always swap on the right tailshaft for your 700R4, and use the torque arm you have. But that's kinda a step backwards, you don't want the torque arm connected to the tranny. The jegster arm, or another type of mount that keeps it off the tranny is a great idea.

BMR
Scroll down to the tran swap mounts
http://www.bmrfabrication.com/F3-suspension.htm

They say to only use their torque arm. But I can't see how a stock one wouldn't fit wit a little work.
