B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
Hi,
I'm now searching for maybe 1h for an old thread.
I can remember that there were nearly all aftermaket spring rates...but it seems that the thread is gone, can't find it anymore!
Now my questions. My car will see race tracks like Hockenheimring or Nuerburgring Nordschleife in Germany so I need real stiff springs. I'm searching for stiffer replacement springs than the Eibach Pro's.
If I remember right I saw in the above mentioned thread that the B&G spring had something with 800lbs, was that right?
Also the Moog's with their 760would be interesting, but I've read alot of different part numbers for them. Who has got the right ones?
Now I've got cutted Z28 springs and they are too soft. but I like the ride height pretty much:
-Koni Sports (the yellow ones) with adjustable rebound on all 4 corners
-Ground Control wheight jack kit (for setting the car height)
-Ground Control (Blue Coil) springs: front 800lbs, back 175lbs
-Australian 9 Bolt Posi rear with disk brakes
-aluminum drive shaft
-Hyperflex complete car poly bushing kit
-36mm front and 24mm rear sway bars
-17" x 8.5" Fittipaldi wheels, custom painted
-255/45 R17 Michelin Pilot Sport tires all around
-Rear spacers -20mm/each side
-Porsche 4-Piston front Brake conversion
-Performance Friction Disks 330x32mm and PFC brake pads
-custom made front wheel hub with 15mm spacer effect on each side
-Earls stainless steel brake lines
-new Sport Seats
-Schroth 4-point harnesses
-Grant type steering wheel
Engine:
350 sbc, 4 bolt, Holley 750er Double Pumper, Weiand Team G Single Plane Manifold, Dart Pro 1 Alu Heads (mild ported, 2.05 and 1.6 Valves, Titanium Valve Springs, Harland Sharp Aluminum Roller Rockers (1.6), Comp Cams mechanic roller Cam, Valve Lift .549 and .574, Duration@50 244 and 255, Lobe 109, dialed in 4 degrees advanced, Keith Black hypereutectic Pistons, Compression 10.5 : 1, Mallory Unillite Distributor, Accel 300+ Ignition Box, Wires and Coil, coated Dyno Don Shorty Headers 1 3/4, after Headers all 2.5" true dual with Dynomax UltraFlo SS mufflers
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
I would go with something such as AFCO springs with threaded adjusters. This way you can just buy the spring in the rate you need. And adjust the ride height.
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
i dont think the moogs are 760lbs.... there was a post on this not to long ago and it stated that it must of been a mix up bc the next part # (since they go in order) is actually less in spring rate.... i think 650 or so, the moogs are a replacement spring and slightly higher in rate but its not 760, i would think 600-650.
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
@Lonnie: Do you also have the spring rates for the (competition) rears?
@customblackbird: http://www.b-gsuspension.com/products.shtml aftermarket like Eibach, Moog etc. I've read in an older thread, that they have about 800lbs but nobody can verify it...
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
I decided to call B&G to ask about their spring rates.
First Ill say I was told (but the guy wasnt 100% sure) that the front B&G are Linear springs meaning they keep the same spring rate throughout suspensions travel
Second the rear springs are progressive, meaning the spring rate actually gets higher as the spring is compressed
Now with that being said I was told that they make thier springs about 20-25% stiffer than STOCK springs.
So lets say stock is around 600, theirs would be around 720-750
NOTE: He also told me KYB seems to have the closest match to their springs in relate to best matching springs and shocks. BUT, he also said it might be best to go with an adjustable setup, such as Koni.
So can someone get the stock spring rate and compare with their numbers. Thanks

search the suspension forum for a post by me. I listed ALL of the available spring rates on third gens.
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
@blyth18md: do you mean your list with all the stock rates? I hoped to get the aftermarket spring rate list I was searching for so long.
@I H8 WWD: I looking for the Tokico Illuminas. Maybe the Konis are on top, but I think nobody will drive their adjustable shocks always on the hardest mode, so I think the Tokicos will do theit job pretty well. For example the Nuerburgring Nordschleife is very bumpy so you are forced to go a bit softer.
Anyways I think there is much more car control if the shocks have some space left for moving
Greetings,

What do you mean? I dont understand how you have this worded.
I want koni's because they are a well known brand, are actually lighter than stock shocks/struts, and are adjustable. I plan to drift and auto-X my Camaro on and off between the 2 all depending on what event is coming to town. So in that case and since this is my DD, I want to be able to adjust my suspension dampening whenever I can and get reliable adjustment. Also to find the best support for a Camaro's heavy ***...ha ha.
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
I would say to get KONIs, determine what spring rate and ride height you want, and order a set of springs to please you. That's what I'm doing...going with Ground Control weight jacks with 750in/lbs front and 150in/lbs rear.

Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
You can get custom spring rates from any company, I made a formula car and has 1600 lb springs made form eibach. But if you want a super stiff ride, just weld the shocks and struts lol
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
I just ment to install them first and then go for a drive. It'll be a huge difference. The rest of the stuff still makes a difference, but it's not as immediatly noticable.
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
@I H8 WWD: Haha, I knew that was to much for my English
What I wanted to say was, that I also think, that the Konis are sure the best dampers we can buy for our cars. But they hardly cost twice as much as the Tokicos and there I dont't know if the difference in driving is worth 300 more bucks.
I've also heard that it is not possible to adjust the Konis with the wheel on!?! Can somebody verify this?
The Tokicos are adjustable on top with a screwdriver.
If it's true with the Konis, that would be a big pro for the Tokicos.

I've got Koni SA's, just put 'em on last weekend and I'm LOVING them.
This should answer your question:
You have to remove the rears to adjust them, but removing rear shocks is super easy, you dont even have to jack the car up if you can reach the bolt with it on the ground.
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
The rears adjuster is the shock rod (thing shiney part) itelf. There is a small button on top of the shaft (the larger, yellow part). You press this down, hold the rod and twist the shaft. But that's after you remove the shock.
While KONIs are the good, they aren't the best. A set of Penkses will cost you in the $3000 dollar range in the US.
Here is a shot of my front KONIs in their J&M mounts. I have cleaned under there since that shot.

hey do you have to clean your strut towers alot with all that space under your caster and camber plates?I was wondering because i wanted to get a set, but i dont want the dirt that looks like it will go with it.
Re: B&G Springs for road racing - please post every aftermarket spring rate you know
I don't really clean under my hood much...lol. But the new J&M design is better than the old ones like mine.
They are more like the stock design in that they won't allow water in under them. I plan to replace the ones I have sometime soon.
