spring compressor to lower car?

Has anyone used these small spring compressors to lower our cars? They look like they might work....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...175420729&rd=1

Re: spring compressor to lower car?

Hard bump, like a pothole or something may just pop those off the spring and BAM! You've got stock ride height on one side and lowered on the other. Would probably have the same effect as jumping you're car a couple feet off the ground.

Re: spring compressor to lower car?

You're supposed to use 2 per spring, and clamp a pair of coils together. They arent going to come off on their own, but... they'll both slide around until they're next to each other over time.

Re: spring compressor to lower car?

MadMax...have you tried them? Is that what happens? Did it increase the spring rate alot? Too stiff?

Re: spring compressor to lower car?

I didnt notice much aside of lowering the car. Its far from the right or ideal way to do things, but it works. If you can find a way to keep them from sliding that would be good. I never came up with anything.

It may work, and I'm not saying it doesn't, just that it seems to have a chance of being dangerous.

Re: spring compressor to lower car?

Why? Think two small bolts cant hold a couple coils together? Only problem would be rust over time.

Re: spring compressor to lower car?

I just meant that if the spring is put under heavy compression the coils might hit the pieces that are holding the coils together... that would cause snap over/understeer. Bad news if you aren't expecting it and are in a turn. And, there is a chance that the bolts might work off one and not the other and the spring would be off-kilter.

I've seen those things at the auto parts store. I wouldn't do it but it's your car.
