C6 Wheels

I purchased a set of GM C6 wheels from a guy and I decided for the rear 19's to stay with a narrower tire to see how well it will fit on my lowered camaro. I went with 275/35/19 and now that they are on they sure did stretch out and I am kind of worried that I may break the bead with any hard turning. Do you think I should be concerned with this?

I think next time I will probably go with 285/35 since I don't think they should stick out much plus the ones on there look kind of goofy. Also as far as I know that is the stock size for the corvette. Any thoughts on this would be great.

Well I will try to make it more clearer...the tire is narrow, the wheel is wide, and the sides of the tire are stretched so they can fit the wheel. They may be just fine but I don't want to ruin a wheel. Maybe I will have to get a picture .

I paid $400 for the wheels and $40 for the front tires that where already on it.

Have you considered the off-set? I'm not sure how they will fit the car. You'll probably need spacers to get them to fit.

Re: C6 Wheels

I have considered the offset and I ordered a set of 2" spacers. Though I looked back at some of the old posts and I see I would need 2 1/2 for the rear. So when they get here I probably will be selling 2 spacers real soon. Also mine are the silver, not the chrome. I personally think silver will look better anyway. Plus they are easier to take care of. I will see if I can take a pic of the wheels tomorrow to see what I am talking about.

Actually I thought the C6 Z06 rims(only the Z06 had 19s i belive...) came with 305's on the back and 275's on the front... because the rear wheels are 19x10, or something like that...

That could be so. The 275's on the front look right. What my friend had on there before was 295 for the rear and that looked just about right also. Mine are 19X10 for the rear.

I could see this working no problem but I don't want the wheels sticking way out. Plus I need to see how it is with a lowered vehicle.

I just got my spacers for the front at least today. I don't think the 2" will fit in the rear so I will have to pick up the rear set next payday. Hopefully these should be on by the end of the month. Can't wait till the snow clears out!

Re: C6 Wheels

I'm running a 295 tire as well on those wheels and while I don't think the 275 would look that great I doubt you'd have an issue with popping the bead. Just look at all the VW guys running 205 tires on 10" wide wheels. They've got issues with bead popping. And yes, 285/35 is stock to the base/z51 vette.

Re: C6 Wheels

A bit of an update...I got my front ones on so far. I haven't bought a adjustable panhard bar yet and my rear is off so I won't mess with the rear until I get that in. Over all the front looks great! Will need to take them off again to clean them up but I love them. I took a few shots but my camera doesn't work good on low light and the camaro isn't going to leave its spot until the snow is gone so alot of them where junk. I took one with the camera phone and the other is the camera. The pictures are really not that good but you will get the idea.

Once I get the rear on I will update this again. Also I have no idea how to post thumbnails so I will just post the URLs from photobucket.

Re: C6 Wheels

i love the C6 rims. i would like to get chrome ones. the 5 spoke rims like you have.
where did you get em? of a website or someone local?
i havnt checked Ebay out yet. but other websites want over $1000 for a set. theres no way im paying that much for a set of rims.
im not that hardcore lol $500 would be about what i would pay. maybe more if i really had to.

are you going to keep them grey or are you going to sand em down and polish em up to a good shine?

Re: C6 Wheels

I got them from a friend. He had them on his 93 blazer for awhile and he needed the money. He actually got the wheels for $350 from another local guy. I personally like them silver and plan on keeping them that way. so much easier to take care of then chrome. I never was a person into chrome but polished does sound kind of nice but chances are I will keep them the way they are. Once I get the other ones on I will take a nice photo shoot outside of the car. The camera will work much better then. But the way the snow is and spring is going to start out as a mess it will be at least a month from now.

I had someone PM me about this thread so I figured I would share here too right away. 2" all the way around but it looks like I should look at 2.25 for the rear. There is a bump stop that looks like it is for when the rear axle hits the body and it sticks out enough that the wheels will hit it if jacked up. There not the best looking wheels. They have a few minor flaws. Here is a pic and a video. They are over all kind of crappy pics but I won't be able to do any new pics until the snow is gone.

Those look really good on your car. I saw a chrome set on a blue Iroc and like how they look on our cars. I think that I might try to get a set of silver C6 wheels for my Z28 when I get it running again.

Thanks!

They are not exactly perfect though. One wheel unfortunately has a very small blemish from a curb and there are a few small things that I have a problem with. If I ever get to the point of "finishing" the car I might get them reapplied with powder coat.
