Edelbrock strut tower brace with Superram

Ok so I finally got my new 383 in the Camaro. It was a pita. I broke the windsheild washer motor while dropping the engine because the Superram intake sits so close to it. I complete forgot to take it out before I started working. Now I replaced my motor mounts with new poly mounts and the engine does sit slightly higher. I tried to reinstall my edebrock sturt brace but it will not fit. It hits the superram intake. Im not sure if its beacuse the engine is sitting higher or the edelbrock brace just will not work with the superram. With my old enegine I had about a 1/4" at the most of clearance between the brace and the old TPI intake.
I did a quick search and could not find anyone answers.
Any suggestions?

Re: Edelbrock strut tower brace with Superram

I have an aggenda to tell you that Edelbrock sucks!!!!!

Edelbrock has sold me a fruadual product and will not refund my money.

I have filed a claim against Edelbrock with the EPA...This is how terrible this situation is.

Boycott Edelbrock and please help my situation. Spread the word.

I bought a MPFI system from them that is suppose to be CARB compliant and it is not. They have left me hanging.

Re: Edelbrock strut tower brace with Superram

I've always heard the Superram won't fit under the stock hood, much less that STB.

The only thing I can think of, it that the middle section would hafta be cut out, and replaced with a thinner piece.

Or if the hood allows for the clearance, slide a spacer under the strut mounts, to raise the mouts.

OK Folks-
I have an '83 Firebird SE, the stock hood is in place.
383
SuperRam
Poly Motor mounts
Jamex Strut Tower Brace (Jamex is long out if business)

I tried an Edlebrock STB, it would not fit.

Re: Edelbrock strut tower brace with Superram

Well I think Im just gonna modify it then. Im not going to buy another brand so I think I may be able to shim the brace up but Im going to have to see how much clearance I have with hood or my other option like Stephen said is to modify the center of the brace and thin it out were it touches the intake.

You could do it like the BMR one.....put your initials in it....383...SOMETHING either cut into it, or vinyl decals on top of the plate piece.

This is intriguing because I have the superram and just put new poly mounts and now the TB rubs the hood.

I have the poly mounts, I don't think it hits.
83, not 91........
STB rubs the hood a bit.

Re: Edelbrock strut tower brace with Superram

I had to modify my strut brace to fit with my superram and poly mounts. Now I figure out what Im going to do with the wiper motor. Even following the install instructions for the superram the motor is still touching the intake. I dont know if I will have any other clearance problems. I still have to mount my new cowl hood.

Re: Edelbrock strut tower brace with Superram

I'm surprised you have problems with your wiper motor. I say this because I had to go to a "newer" wiper motor when I installed my Super Ram. The original had the washer motor on it. The wiper motor I replaced it with locates the pump for the winshield washer in the washer resevoir.

Maybe some of the 92s had the mechanical washer motor like my original??Check how yours is set up. Good luck.

Mine has 3/4" to 1" clearance. Something got changed by GM.
The face of my wiper motor sits about 2" off the firewall.

Re: Edelbrock strut tower brace with Superram

Well after looking eveything over and seeing that my motor is just sitting too high. I have decided to ditch the poly motor mounts and go back to the stock motor mounts or use a set of solid ones. Not only are they causing clerance issuses with my strut brace and wiper motor, they also have affected the way my y-pipe fit causing it to come too close to the floor and knock against the it.

I have the same problem. Stupid poly mounts. I plan to go back to rubber mounts also. Changing mounts will not be fun with the engine in the car.

yeah exactly. It was a pain to change the mounts when the engine was out of the car let alone with the engine in the car.
