Tokico HB4001 & HE3613 or KYP GR2?

Need your input. I can get a complete set of Tokico shocks and struts for $285.00 with free shipping. How are these compared to the KYB set in that price range?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like a good price. I went with KYB 236001 Gr-2 Struts & KG 5562 gas-adjust shocks for $193 total from Summit. I think they are both good choices, if the extra $92 isn't a deal breaker. Compare both and decide, they are both better then the $800+Bilsteins money wise. I am happly with My KYB's

Re: Tokico HB4001 & HE3613 or KYP GR2?

Thanks! I've been looking at the KYB's, but I think the Tokico shocks and struts are what i may go with.

I have UMI sub-frame connectors, LCA, torque arm, panhard bar, wonder bar and went with a 9-bolt Borg Warner 3.27 rear end with the sway bar from an 89 Iroc. Much better than the whimpy stock 92 Firebird setup.

I also went with Energy Suspension bushings throughout. I figured the Tokico's for the price would be the best bang for the buck. I didn't want to spend more than $300 because the next step is a huge jump in price, lol

Thanks!!!!

Re: Tokico HB4001 & HE3613 or KYP GR2?

i have the KYB GR2 fronts and gas-a-justs rear... i loved them and they made a huge diff over my stock worn 130,000 ws6 stuff... the gas-a-justs are a good bit stiffer than the GR2s but they only make them for the rear on our cars... overall they are good alil better than stock replacements. they are better than stock and better than monroe sensatracs. im happy with my KYBs and for the price u cant beat them. i just stuck a set of 4 GR2s on my other 86 TA with the WS6 and it made a hugeeeeee diff over the stock worn stuff... it also had 130,000 on it. but the GR2 is not designed for lowered vehicles and they wont last as long if the car is lowered. but i had mine on for a year with the sportlines which are one of the most drastic lowering springs and they were still working when i pulled them out for cut moog 5664s.

the tokicos are a better shock... i believe your talking about the blues... am i right? the blues are better than the KYB GR2s and i would of had them if i didnt have a tight budget. they are also designed for lowered cars so it would last if u lowered your car or left it stock. i personally wouldnt waste my money on anything higher than the GR2/gas-a-justs combo or the tokico blues for a spirited daily driver. the monroes are ok if ur an old man and u just want cheap replacements and dont care about performance/sprited driving.

i would recomend the tokios over the KYB if u got the money. i'll be going with KYB AGXs when these GR2's/gas-a-justs take a poo. the AGXs are better than the tokico blues and they are adjustable. the tokico illuminas (whites) are adjustable and better than the KYB AGXs but cost a bit more as well. if you want the best u go for koni yellows.

heres how i see it.... rated from stock to best. u wouldnt need anything over the tokico blues on a daily driver since u wont be using the shocks/struts for there intended purpose/wont be pushing them enough to need the higher end shocks.
stock=AC delco blistens
stock replacements now are monroe sensatracs=stock handling
KYB GR2s=alil better than stock
KYB Gas-a-justs= better than the KYB GR2s (stiffer shocks/higher pressures)
tokico blues= cheapest shocks for lowered cars but better than all the above
blistens= super $$ but good shocks designed for lowered cars better than above
KYB AGXs= about the same as blistens but there adjustability is wat counts
tokico illuminas (whites)= really good and are fully adjustable, better valving than KYB
Koni reds= they are prob the same as tokico illuminas and i would get the tokicos just to save money over the koni reds
Koni yellows= are prob the best off the shelf shock/strut for our cars... designed for high performance use on lowered cars... and are adjustable, great quality but MUCHO $$

Re: Tokico HB4001 & HE3613 or KYP GR2?

I put on some cheap Monroe's 2 years ago and since i did all the UMI mods it rides like crap. In fact, it rode like crap for the past year, but I think tying the frames together and all the other performance suspension upgrades just shows the weakness of the Monroe shock/struts.

I think the Tokico's are the best for the money from what everyone is saying. I basically want the best performance/ride for $300. Cam and head upgrades are occurring as well.

Thanks
