bmr lca width vs stock?

I got my c6 wheels on the bird but when i take sharp turns the rear tires rub on the control arms. My car is about lowered1.5''-2'' abd im waiting on my adjustable panhard to come in the mail. Also i dont have lcarb yet but they are coming soon. So are there any aftermarket control arms that are smaller/skinnier that will allow a little more clearence? Also for some reason the passenger side rear has always sat about an inch higher than the driver side????? Ive had the lowering springs in over a year and have messed with them a few times but could never get it fixed. thanks in advance guys!!!

Re: bmr lca width vs stock?

most aftermarket rear lower control arms are smaller in diameter than stock, BMR's website will tell you what they are made out of. depending on style, they range from 1.25": wide to 1.625 wide. Both a bit narrower than stock.

Are you rubbing on both arms of just one? it probably has a lot to do with the lack of an adjustable panhard than just the control arms.

as for the rear height, are the spring insulators both in place and are both the springs indexed properly? the open end of the spring should be to the rear of the axle mount pad.

Yeah im pretty sure its rubbing on both sides. Another thing when i take the turn my car does lean because i have small sway bars. I think once i get bigger sway bars it wont hit but theres only one way to find out haha

Re: bmr lca width vs stock?

are you sure you are running on the lca?

what you need to do before you start throwing money at parts, is pull both wheels off and see if
1. both are rubbing
2. where they really are rubbing.

then you can intelligently pick a solution.
I just cant imagine that you are rubbing on both LCA's. Its most likely only one side rubbing because of an off-center rear.

Re: bmr lca width vs stock?

Bad bushings on the PHB, would allow the rear end to **** left & right & rub both wheels.

But ....Have you identified FOR SURE where the rubbing is?

A sway bar doesn't nothing to limit left/right travel & prevent rubbing. Only way the sway bar could affect the rubbing, is of the tires are rubbing the inner fender well, when the body leans in turns.

My UMI LCA........2 5/8" vs 1 1/8"

Yeah....Tubulars will give you a good bit of room. If you need even more, get the offset bushing spacers, if you get rod-ended LCAs.

Equal On-Car adjustables.....

BMR.....1.25" x .095" 4130 chrome moly tubing.

UMI......1.250" x 0.095" 4130 Chrome Moly steel

So if you get the adjustables too, the BMR ones will be the same as my UMI ones.

Re: bmr lca width vs stock?

so im curious, what wheel are you using? backspacing and spacer? I've seen people here with 17x11's with stock control arms, only a little rubbing.

Re: bmr lca width vs stock?

Hello,

Thanks for the interest in UMI

You may also want to consider these- http://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...roducts_id=107

They offset the control arm inward an additional 3/8"... should do the trick for you as well

Also as noted a panhard bar to make sure the rear end is good and center is a good idea. Also if the factory bar or bushings allows the stock panhard bar to flex at all that will cause your issues as well. I would highly a panhard bar, we have a full list seen here- and we have 15% off right now! - http://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...Path=7_138_106

Thank you!
Ryan

Re: bmr lca width vs stock?

Well I think the rears are 19 by 10.5. And I'm running 295/30 still waiting on the panhard I'm getting from a member from here maybe he will include new bushings
