Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

they are these
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...onnectors.aspx

they are made for thirdgen... Most aftermarket SFC's are perimeter-mounted. they run along the pinch-rail just behind the side ground effects but these mac connectors hug the contour of the underside of the car and weld in to the front and rear sub-frames. The front saddle exactly fits the transmission sub-frame. The rear saddle of it ties in at the rear sub-frame where the LCA's mount

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

bmrs spohn and umi subframe connectors weld outside the frame those types run along the rails right underneath the car..... but the alstons and macs are completely different they weld in the inside near the transmisson and directly connect the front and back frames together.... some people buy the type that bmr and spohn make then get the alstons/mac for even better support...thats what im going to do..

i got this picture from a member on this site here is what the alstons/mac look like on the car

i wonder how stiff the car would be with two subframe connectors.... prolly super stiff....

as you can see below this member looks like he has the umi outer rail connectors.... the places that are circled thats where the alstons/mac subframe connectors go.... so you can actually put two different set of connectors on... i already got the bmrs..... now i want those macs or alstons....

I need all new floor pans before I do mine, but will be going with Spohn's SFC's and a set of Alston's SFC's as well. All tubular, All welded...KICKASS.

Let us know if you do go ahead and get the second set installed, then post pictures, I don't think anyone has pictures of 2 sets on their car? I know people have done it just haven't taken pictures.

-Take care

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

hey johnny... that isnt my car but i have the bmr subframe connectors which look just like the red connectors that are lifted on the yellow jacks in the picture... i didnt have any issues at all puttig them in... only took 30 minutes once the car was in the air... yes i have long tube headers, custom 3 inch y pipe, gutted cat and flowmaster 80 series catback all 3 inches... very easy installation no hitting or rubbing at all..... bmr does make two different styles of sfcs.... one of them is made for people who are using the stock exhuast route or shorty headers and the set which i have is the set for people who are using long tube headers and a custom route exhaust system...im going to order mac subframes as well this wednesday and put two different sets of frame connectors on my car and take pictures underneath to show everyone what two would look like.....

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

Hey guys,

I have the MAC subframe connectors installed already on my car and holy crap did it make a HUGE difference from stock... I recently purchased the SPOHN frame connectors and they are at the garage as we speak getting welded!!! So with both of these connectors it will be like having a full frame (well not quite)! Inner and outer.. It just looks like it will be 10 times more rigid like this... No more cracking, finally!

I will be sure to take pics soon.. Unfortunately they are black powdercoated (all my tubular suspension parts are) so it may be difficult to see but I will be sure to bring a good camera with a good flash so we can see clearly!

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

I am thinking because my floor pans are semi garbage (about a 12x12 rust spot with very minor holes in this spot on each floor pan right behind the front seats). I am going to buy the Alston's for now, and when I get my pans done get the Spohn SFC's then. This will help bring back some of the rigidity of the car. I am thinking I will bolt them in so I can install them myself then drive the car to a shop of some sort to get them welded. Or does someone want to bring some ramps over and weld these in for me?

Where is the cheapest place to get these. TDS?

so whats the verdict?
They pulled the tranny first (it's getting a major rebuild) and will get welding on it first thing next week but the thing is I'll be away on a business trip so I won't be able to get pics until the 31st of August unfortunately! I'll be sure to test drive the hell out of it afterwards (putting on LS1 brakes, rebuilt tranny, new springs/umi a-arms, frame connectors, and other misc. things)..

Thanks and noted 88fastgta

Wow, totally cant remember, when installing (in my case bolting in the alstons) dont I need the cars suspension to be loaded, otherwise having the car sit on a drive on lift or ramps correct? Ill need to drill some holes as well correct? If I have to drill I will probably just get the weld ons and drive to a shop to have them put on instead of doing them myself. Thanks in advance guys.

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

yeah the suspension has to be loaded and the car must sit evenly (otherwise you would weld them in while the frame is bent?)

Take to a welding shop... Best way, this is a mod you don't wanna mess up!

These Post make SFC's like they are the second coming. I installed mine after Spohn Performance came out with their Tube type design 7 or 8 yrs ago (it has been so long since I made this Mod) . Any brand is good as long as they are welded in

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

Just called the garage yesterday and they were just about to weld in the Spohn frame connectors in my car! I warned them to watch out for the rug so I hope they did... In any case, I can't wait to put it on the lift and take pictures...

Will hopefully get them by tomorrow..

EDIT: Just called them and they said it was done... All welded in properly. They said there were no instructions included so they had to go on the internet to find out where they were supposed to weld, which probably costed me an extra 75$ of time for them to look it up.. No biggy tho i'm just happy with the end result, i can't wait to drive this thing now.. new tranny, a-arms, sophn frame connectors, tie rod adjusters, moog iroc springs, etc...

Perhaps it is my own ignorance but wouldn't both be a little over kill? I cannot imagine that double sets would do anything but add weight.

I am jsut trying to learn here so let me know your thoughts.

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

JUST GOT MY CAR BACK TODAY!!!

Rides like a dream, even better than before!! (Although ****ed up because I majorly need an alignment)

I the car feels stiffer and what i noticed is that there is less side to side wobbling... Also when i go diagonally over a curb it seems all the cracks are completely gone now... I think frame connectors in the middle re-inforce the car differently than the ones that weld near the outside of the frame...

Overall it is better I think... And our cars' chassis are built very flexy so every bit helps..

i DO have t-top car, but with no rust at all...

I didn't get to see them installed on the lift, but i DID crawl under the car and saw everything... Looks like they did a good job too. No mess.

I will try to get pics asap... going to go get an alignment tomorrow and when it's on the lift i will snap some pics!!

UPDATE: The good news is... I GOT THE PICS!!! It was cool, the guy let me snap pics while he was aligning the car lol.. I managed to get all kinds of pictures of everything under the car and i've been wanting to do that for awhile now.

Here's the bad news... I won't get to transfer the pics until tonight when i get home lol... Sorry to make you guys wait... I hope there was enough lighting so we can see...

I'll be back later!

Re: just installed BMR subframe connectors

Ill be doing Spohn and Alstons. Cool, cant wait for his and yours. Then we can change this thread name to... Dual SFC Setups & Pictures or Inner & Outer Rail SFC's Installed, or w/e..haha. It seems like the Mac's picture when compared to the Alston picture seems as though the Macs have a harder bend or two in them? Also they have a different style mounting point, where Mac has a flat point and Alstons are all sides (For bolt in reasons but can be welded all the way around).

Mac

Alston

Either way can't wait for pictures.

Yep... This is gonna be interesting to see these combos... Some people have said that it adds un-necessary weight but I mean, what's an extra 22lbs? Put in 4th gen seats and you just removed 40lbs... These connectors sit low anyway so the extra weight shouldn't be a problem...

Will post these pics in a few hours!!
