Ok guys.... Im a newbie here and this is my first 3rd gen camaro and I will probably be asking a lot of questions and hanging out here soaking it all up.
So here is one for the rear axle experts....My 91 Z has the factory 10 bolt 3:08 posi rear. What is the sline count on these axles??
While your at it does anyone know the sline count on a 99 firebird 10-bolt with 3:42 posi??
Reason Im asking..... I was going to swap this 99 rear into my 91. But after I drove 2 hours to the salvage yard to get I noticed one of the axle tubes looks bent a little. So....I want to put the posi unit and gears in my 91 housing and re-use my original. axles. Thanks for all your help on this so far!!
As for strength, there's no difference between your 91 and the 99. The 99 is a bit wider.
You can pull the posi and gears out of the 99 and put them into your 91 with no problems. The axles themselves won't interchange because of the length difference.

Its really not that hard to swap the ls1 rear brakes onto a drum rear, i did it with my old 10 bolt. There is a tech article on the home page in the tech section.

My stock 91 rear has drums.
I would like to remove the posi and gears and the disk brakes from the 99 and put them in/on my 91 rear housing and use my stock axles. This will work or not?
I read the article on here on the brake swap.. Seems easy enough.
Great info in that link, Thanks James! Im still trying to find my way around the site. Ive been a first gen owner for 25 years and know these cars pretty well.
First time 3rd gen owner and loving it. Just a new learning curve on a few things with these cars.
Im still a little puzzled with just 1 thing.....I will try and ask this as simple as I know how. Lets say the only thing Im going to use from the 99 rear is the carrrier and gears. If I take the entire posi carrier and gears from the 99 rear......install it in my stok 91 Z rear....will my stock 91 Z axles slide back in and C-clips fasten back on ???
Thanks for all the help and patience with me everyone!! I promise to try not to be a pain in the a**

As long as the 91 has 28-spline axles, which it should, I see no obvious reason why your plan won't work.

Great! I am going to move forward with this then. Thank you!
I did read the brake swap write up on here as well and will be taking the disks off the rear as well and putting them on mine.
My original plan before discovering the 99 rear was bent, was to put the whole rear in the car and get some deeper back space wheels. Now Im just going to keep my rear under the car and upgrade it and keep my stock wheels.
Thanks again to all who took the time to help me out. I will be a regular here now, so see ya around
