General Suspension Questions

So after driving my car home I realized it was in need of some suspension work. So I am going to start with the obvious shocks, struts, and springs. I was leaning towards these (http://www.kybshocksonline.com/Prod_...35773&pid=1329) while drawing a blank on springs. The only thing I could find were the lowering springs which I am not quite ready for yet. Any suggestions?? And is there anything else I should check for while under there that these cars maybe notorious for (1991 RS)???

Re: General Suspension Questions

Moog makes good replacement suspension and steering pieces, and they have reproduction factory springs for camaros.

As for what else you should check, check the condition of all your rubber parts, balljoints, and also check and see if the steering system needs service as well.

If you haven't already, you might check the stickies at the top of the page. Chances are with a car that's galloping toward 20 years old, the front end needs a rebuild: ball joints, tie rods, center link, idler arm, and bushings--as well as the parts you mention.

Re: General Suspension Questions

Does anyone make a rebuild or front end service kit for these cars? As I live outside the US i really need a kit of parts that is guaranteed to work and fit etc.

Re: General Suspension Questions

I recently bought some Moog rear springs for my 1989 Firebird. I talked to the Tech Dept at Moog. They told me all they make for the rear of third gen cars is a variable rate spring. I bought a pair and installed them. They ride decent and handled ok. I had a serious case of wheel hop, which the springs and new KYB shocks took care of. I only had the Moogs in for a week or so and have since installed a set of four Sumitt Racing 1" lowering springs. Nothing against the Moog's I just wanted matched parts. By the way , my stock springs had a body height of 26" (guess they had sagged over time). The Summit lowering springs raised it over an inch. They tell me they will settle (we will see). If you are going with KYB's buy the adjustable shocks/struts. Just for what it is worth, Eibach recommended Tokico to me for their 1" lowering springs.
