Powdercoating springs?

Would the 400 degree baking temperature of the powder, affect a springs rate?

I'm wondering if the uniform, not localized heat, as well as the "low" temperature, would affect their rate any.

Re: Powdercoating springs?

if it didnt affect the spring rate, the powdercoating would all crack and flake off when you compressed the springs...
the colorful springs you see in catalogs are urethane coated IIRC

Re: Powdercoating springs?

Is that something you KNOW, or SUSPECT? I've found places that do powder coating, who show that they do springs.

Or is the urethane you speak of, just another form of powdercoating, kinda like primer vs top coat paint?

Re: Powdercoating springs?

springs come powder-coated from many manufacturers. I dont, however, know if the rate would be affected, but i really doubt it.

Re: Powdercoating springs?

No, the curing temp of the coating is nowhere near high enough to affect the spring metallurgy. About 350F max and then you can have annealing, typical curing temps are lower than that. You can powdercoat springs and it won't peel off if you use the proper powder.

Re: Powdercoating springs?

i was wrong i guess.
ill admit it too!!
its possible however that the "urethane" was basically the same thing as powdercoat just under a different name
either way, i doubt it would affect the spring much at all.

Re: Powdercoating springs?

There are several types of powders amongst which are urethane, polyester, expoxy and so on.....

I have had many springs powdercoated, never an issue.
