Air shocks

Hey guys, i was wondering, has anyone ever used air shocks in a third gen?

but like this style of shocks

If you search, you'll find they have been discussed a lot.

To save you the trouble...Yes people have, but they aren't exactly any kind of a performance item for a 3rd gen. Might as well put lowrider hydraulics on.

I had them on an 83 T-Bird when I was a kid, and they handle like crap. My father poped one on me when he hit a pot hole.lol

Do you have an issue you're trying to resolve?

I ask because myself - I have a 4th gen rear and Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs - so I am lowered and my wheels stick out. Normal driving car empty I have no problems - but if I have stuff in the trunk (cooler or whatever) or the kids in the back seat, on bumps my tires will hit the fender lip in the rear. So, I'm going to try these:

They insert into the coil springs, and can be adjusted with air to help with the amount of compression in the springs when I'm carrying cargo. Might be an option for you.

What wheels do you have? A stock 16" rear wheel shouldn't stick out. And if only 1 side does, an adjustable panhard bar will fix that. In fact, IMO, all lowered cars should get an adjustable panhard bar, to re-center the rear end.

I have the stock 16" 3rd gen wheels, which do stick out on each side about 1.5 inches on my LS1 rear end. If I had the 4th gen wheels, they'd tuck in like they should, but then I'd need spacers for the fronts. Although I see alot of wheels that look really nice, I really like my stock 3rd gen wheels. And I do have an adjustable panhard bar - like you said it is a requirement with lowering springs.

My pet peeve, but I REALLY hate when people say "they stick out" which implies past the fenders.

With a LS1 rear end & stock rear wheels, they do SET out (still under the fender but do not STICK OUT (past the fender) like how a Mexican Lowrider does.

UNDER the fenders = SET out
PAST the fender = STICK out

OK - well they "set out" far enough for the fenderlip to scrub the tires if I have any weight in the rear.

I had a pair on an ElCamino I used to haul a little weight in from time to time...it was okay.

I can't imagine putting them on a performance car tho.

Make sure if you do go that way to run seperate air lines to avoid the "squish factor".
