I need new struts

My 1986 Iroc has 121K miles now and the passenger front strut is covered in oil, makes noise, and now after checking around, seems to be helping to wear that tire. So, I'm gonna check it out but I'm pretty sure that strut is done.

Theres no way I can afford Bilstiens or Konis. After checking out this site and other places on the internet, I think I'm gonna be going with Tokico struts. I found a set on ebay for $326 and it comes with the front struts and the rear shocks. My friend has a 280ZX turbo and he has installed Tokicos with drop springs and it handles like it's on rails. Rides as rough as hell on a bumpy road but handles great. What would my car be like with Tokicos? It would be nice if it wasn't too much more rough than it already is. Should I replace the strut mounts as well?

So, mainly I'm asking if anyone has any other suggestions before I order something I don't want. I know KYB has some as well, but I don't know about them. I'd like to still maintain good handling, as I've always been impressed with this cars lack of body roll and ability to take corners. Thank you and any help is appreciated.

Re: I need new struts

After a lot of reseach, I went with KYB front struts & KYB gas-adjust shocks on the rear and they work for me. Also a lot cheaper then the $326 e-bay price. Check tirerack & summit.

I agree, KYB is a good way to go. Especially on a budget. I do not have them personally but that is because I am getting a good deal on TPIS custom valved shocks/struts. I would not hurt to look into springs while you are at it, Eibach seems to make a universaly decent set up. Just remember that if you lover your car then you might want to invest in a bump steer kit. Good luck.

Re: I need new struts

Ok KYB it is! I think I'm just going to do the fronts for now because theyre the ones that are leaking and do the rear shocks in a little while. I think I want to get AGX all the way around, so I'm gonna look around for deals. I don't have a job really right now as painting with my dad in this economy/weather is really slow, so I'm starting to apply at different places so I'll be able to pick up the rear shocks later. I could do them all but I'd rather not.
