Spohn suspension parts install/help/tech etc...

I just spent an entire day installing all new spohn and UMI suspension parts. I ran across quite a bit of problems as you will see from my many posts that are going up for help.

Can someone confirm that there is nothing wrong with my Spohn T-56 cross member and that it is installed right. There are three holes on each side but only two get used to mount the cross member on each side.

Also, looking through the drive shaft loop from the front of the car the Spohn torque arm is not parallel with the drive shaft loop at all. and it just looks like things are wayyy off. see pics.

Re: Spohn suspension parts install/help/tech etc...

there are 6 holes in the crossmember, usually only 4 get used, but if you notice there are provisions for 2 more bolts in the trans subframe, you can tap the holes and add 2 more bolts. I did this on my UMI setup, 6 bolts just makes things a little stronger.

as for the safety loop issue. The engine and trans are not centered in the car, the engine sits about an inch to the passengerside and the entire trans and engine assemble is installed in an alight angle in the tunnel. Now the pinion yoke on the trans is in the center of the car, so things will not be dead straight. Its hard to tell by the pics, bit things should be fine, if anything, the crossmember should be able to move a bit if you loosen the bolts, maybe help line things up better.

What you can do, if you have the driveshaft. Bolt the shaft to the rear and through the loop. The center on the output shaft of the trans should be centered with the trans mount, so if you can get the driveshaft centered on the trans mount, and it clears the loop, you will be fine.

Thats all i can say. I dont like Spohn's t56 crossmember because it sits so damn low, but unfortunately, the only other available t56 crossmember was from skulte, and he no longer makes it. But even that one didnt have a torque arm mount. It did however have much better ground clearance as well as humps for dual exhaust if you ever went that route.

Anyway, the crossmember i have never heard any complaints about aside from ground clearance, so i think your ok there. Other Spohn parts however, some that you have also been fighting with, did/do have issues and nobody can ever get a straight answer as to whether those issues have ever been corrected.

You can always call Steve Spohn with your questions, maybe he will be able to give you some insite.

Re: Spohn suspension parts install/help/tech etc...

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better about it. I will see how things line up as i get moving along. Nothing is torqued down yet except hte k-member so I can easily adjust things later. I am going to try and give Stevea call this week and see what the deal is. Maybe even send him some photos.
