It's actually fairly simple to do yourself. Go rent a balljoint seperator (picklefork) & press (2 seperate items) from Autozone (you'll get all your money back when you take the tools back). Jack the car up, take the tire off, remove the crown nut from the bottom of the spindle where the ball joint is, insert balljoint seperator & hammer away.
Before seperating the joint, you'll want a jack under the spring pad on the control arm to keep it from firing towards the ground & the spring who knows where (injury bad). After the spindle is seperated, move it out of the way, use the balljoint press to remove the old balljoint then use it to press the new one in, the rest of the installation is (haynes manual talk),, reverse of removal. It sounds more intimidating than it really is. That's about it, hopefully if I missed something or someone has an easier way they'll share.
