Who makes knuckles/spindles for our cars?

I need a new passenger side knuckle/spindle as I suspect mine is bent. I simply don't trust a used one from just anywhere because they bend so easily just hitting curbs and stuff that even on a car being parted out that shows no damage, this could still be bent.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement that's new? I've had an ad in the wanted for awhile and no luck so I just want to buy new.

My local O'Reilly's had no idea where to start...

Thanks!

Alex

Classic industries had them in their catalog a few years are, haven't looked recently. They were brutally expensive though.

I might a couple good ones in the garage from old projects, the later style casting too. Ill check tonight

Re: Who makes knuckles/spindles for our cars?

You could try a dozen junkyard ones for the price of a classic industries spindle. I'd find a used one.

I worked in a junkyard/salvage yard. cars in junkyards aren't always junk. Most of the time ONE single problem sends them there like an engine, trans, or brakes because the owner can't fix it themselves and can't afford the cost to pay a shop. Don't be so nervous about a junkyard car. If its wrecked, then maybe the spindle could be messed up but if the car is straight then it's probably as good as any.

I've never read a thread on these boards about someone bending a spindle. I'd think that if you hit something hard enough to bend a spindle you have other major issues to fix.

I doubt its bent unless you hot a curb at 60 mph or something. Bending a spindle really is not that easy to do.

Re: Who makes knuckles/spindles for our cars?

I had to buy a drive side spindle last winter when anothe driver used me to stop her car. Well, HawksThirdGen has used spindles for (IIRC) about $60. Yes it was used, but for the price of a new OEM one ($300+), if you can find one, it is well worth it.

I ended up getting one from Hawk's last week along with some other stuff I ordered so I figured I've give them a try. I received a VERY nice condition one with hardly any surface rust and wasn't bent.

These spindles are cast arent they? They're not really going to be very flexible... they'll just break I think.

I would go for a factory spindle over anything newly manufactured or fabricated. The factory spindles are designed so that GM doesnt get sued for parts failures killing their customers.

They actually do bend fairly easy.

Re: Who makes knuckles/spindles for our cars?

Cant you just compensate for that with tie rod adjustments?

To a certain extent yes, but at the cost of full range of steering. Plus it's better just to have the car right and not a patch job.
