88 GTA - Brake Rattle in left rear-

Hey all.

I have an annoying rattle comming from the left rear brakes. This is a low mile (28k) car, and there is nothing wrong / loose on calipers, rotor, etc.

I heard once that there was a known problem with the
e-brake(?) and there was a TSB about it. As I look back there, I see what looks like a counter-weight.

It rattles (loud) when I hit any type of bump. IOr, if I pound on the tire hard enough.

I'm sure someone here has had the same problem. What was it and how did you fix it??

Thanks,

Michael

It sounds more like the pads are loose in the caliper. There are a couple "ears" on the top of the outboard pad. They need to be bent down slightly so the pad fits tight in the caliper.

That should solve your problem.

I thought about that as well.

I had a friend press the brake pedal down while I pounded on the wheel. I still have the noise. So, I figured it must be something else... (since the pads would be then pressed against calipers and rotor).

Any other ideas?? It's driving me insane! I was close to being a total nut-job to begin with, but this certainly isn't helping!

Well, all I can suggest is pull the wheel and double-check the pads and that all the bolts, etc... are tight.
