Sharing some spring/swaybar info I've gathered

I don't know how the tables will come out, but here goes.

Using this info I have finally gathered ...
wonder bar
36mm hollow front swaybar
34mm rear swaybar (may be 25mm it is on the way)
BZX front springs
NNL rear springs

By the way can anyone give me part numbers for high duromete 24mm rear swaybar bushings, or any other high durometer 1LE
type bushings for that matter.

Q: Does anyone know where I can get a new “Wonderbar”? Does it help much?
A: It was worth putting on. Definetly made a noticeable difference. Here are the part numbers.

I believe I've read that the wonderbar is no longer available through GM.

back from the dead

does anyone know where NUX rear springs fit in the range? it's an '87 SC, originally lg4 so probably one of the softer ones. i want to know if they'll be as stiff as ws6 springs if i cut them a half coil or so.

Car: 91 Firebird Formula
Engine: For me to know.....
Transmission: and you to find out....
I have to thank chitowncruiser for "guiding" me to this post. I also have to thank Mike-88CamaroTBI for posting all this info on suspension. Im STILL kinda lost about what I'm looking into for my 91 Formula. Im looking to redo the suspension top to bottom but Im gonna start small. For front springs for me....what would i want something "light" or "heavy"????? I want something "better " than stock springs but I dont want a "harsh" ride either.

As for the rear springs.....whats the difference between single and variable rate???

My last question (for now ) is will "playing" around with different springs affect a wheel alignment greatly? Granted putting in lowering springs will affect alignments (to SOME degree). But what about switching for a rear spring with a single rate to a spring with variable rate???? Would that affect the alignment a lot?

Thanks.

Is there a part # for the 25mm solid rear bar? If it is available that is. If not what kind of car should I be looking for at the yard?

I have the hollow 36/solid 24 combo which came on some 89-92 Camaros and some 86 to 92 Firebirds (my 85 IROC originally had a solid 34/solid 24 combo). Frankly, I've never heard of a 25mm rear but that certainly doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Has anyone actually verified its existance with a micrometer or by some other means?

I did not see the following part # in your list above.

On my 1991 Camaro RS. RPO F41
Front Springs (factory originals): 14029392 BXU

I pulled the blue tag off a couple of weeks ago when installing wonder bar. As far as I know the front springs are original. I am the second owner and bought the car w/ 26,xxx miles.

I have one on my Iroc. i tried to fit and squeeze the 24 on there. but i had to get a 1" drill bit and drill it out. and i put claiper on there and looked at the charts for the conversion to metric. when all done and said. Its a 25mm.

Although I've sold a number of the so-called 1LE/WS6 sway bars (36/24 combo), they can be somewhat diffiuclt to find, but finding them is certainly not impossible. I'd be interested in a part # for the 25mm myself since I've never seen one. What is the 25 paired with up front?

Sorry James - cutting in a bit I'm afraid - don't have your answer.

To Mike-88CamaroTBI-

Can you tell us a bit about where you got your info - source it for us? Just curious. Very glad to see some spring rate numbers though - been wanting to know what my '89 IROC has, roughly, for spring rates so if I go shopping for others I can objectively compare the new with the stock stuff - thanks.

Huh… interesting thread. I may be able to offer some other useful info (actually measured):

Front:
BZX 14029398 ’87 WS6 Formula 611lb/in
BZW 14029398 '83 Trans Am 630lb/in
BXW 14029393 Late RS F41 397lb/in

Rear:
NNL 10018091 '87 WS6 Formula 155lb/in
NNB 10018092 '83 Crossfire TA (didn't measure the rate)

The '87 Formula 350 came with 36/24mm sway bars
The '83 had 32/21 (I really think that these were actually sae sizes since they measure round numbers: 1.25" and .825")

The formula has eibach springs (710/108-170 lb/in) and the 36/24 sway bars on it and the '83 had the '83 fronts with one coil cut (780lb/in) and the rears with ½ a coil cut (195lb/in) with the 32/21mm sway bars. The '87 formula has all poly sway bar bushings, I found that I liked the '83 better with rubber bushings in the back.

I was MUCH happier with the way the '83 handled with the stiffer springs and much softer sway bars, and it was significantly faster at the autox.

I'm trying to find a 34mm hollow front bar (anyone have one collecting dust?). I figure that would be about the same as the 32 solid but weigh less (the 36mm hollow weighs 11#, the 32 solid weighs 33#)
