Most guys will set the valve lash by removing the valve covers and starting the engine, at idle it shouldn't be spraying oil or anything so you should be fine. The rockers will click, tighten them until they stop clicking and then go 1/4 turn more and you're set.
OK everyone, i finally found the problem was strictly operator error. I guess next time i should do the adj with the right piston on top dead center huh?? Yeah i am pretty dumb LOL.
