Does it go back slow also or idle a little higher for a longer time?
If so, the throttle cable may be binding up from corrosion. Either that or the TV cable/linkage is binding.
Get under the hood and manually move the throttle. It should open pretty easy. If not, then your throttle return spring on the TB may be binding.
A shot of WD-40 should loosen it up for a little while, but the best way is to replace it.
The only other possibility (and it's happened to me) is the cable has worn its way through the housing/insulation. A common place is right near the firewall where it makes it's first bend.
Check all those and report back with what you find.
