The rotor and dist. cap have little to do with the car not having spark unless theyre damaged. It could be alot of things. Faulty coil, loss of power to the distributer and coil, bad module.

Before replacing anything more, check all the connections, plug and coil wires, and grounds to make sure there arnt any loose connectors or wires. Also check to make sure the distributer and coil have power in the right places. If your in a pinch and you need wiring diagrams, the chiltons manual has reprints of the factory f-body wiring manual. Not in color but theyll do.

After youve made sure you have power in the right places at teh dist. and the coil you can start checking things.

The first thing would be to check if it has a weak spark or no spark at all. Remove one sparkplug and plug the wire back on the plug. With the fuel injectors disconnected, hold the spark plug up against the cylinder head and have someone crank the motor over. It should give strong, blue-white sparks. Anything less like weak orangy-blue sparks is basically no spark at all. Be careful, though. Try to keep your hand as far away from the spark plug as possible. The coil can pack quite a punch. I think spark testers are available but I dont own one.

The module is a possibility. The module is relatively easy to remove so you can take it down to an autoparts store to have it tested. If it is bad then getting a new GM module would be advisable. I never thought much of the cheap stuff from the autoparts stores.

Another possibility is a faulty or disconnected pickup coil. As for the ignition coil, it could be bad as well.

On top of this, it could be a general no-start problem if you have yet to deterimine that you have no spark at all.

The chiltons manual as well as a reprinted factory manual will have flowcharts, diagnostic procedures and wiring diagrams in them. Picking up a good manual would really help you diagnose your problem.

Jsut about every thirdgen needs a new starter if it has the origional. Itll turn over a lot faster but its unlikely that the starter will cause your cranks but doesnt start issue.

If it had a didnt start because it didnt crank then I think youve found your problem

lmao! Anywho, make sure you check your ignition module. Those things can go bad and you'd never know it. I replaced my cap/rotor, coil, AND plugs before I figured out what it was. It's the little (almost U shaped) dohicky right under the cap. has 2 connections coming from it, one going to your coil. $30 from AutoZone with a lifetime warranty...
